What else would I enjoy?

My dh bought me The Midnight Library for Christmas and I have devoured it already! I really, really enjoyed it and would like to read something else that I will enjoy similarly.

Any recommendations?

“The Humans” by the same author.

GlitterBiscuits · 29/12/2020 12:05

It reminded me of Eleanor Oliphant.

Ghosts by Dolly Alderton and/or Grown Ups by Marian Keyes - insights into a lot of different characters' lived experience vs. how their lives look on the outside. Very human.

How to Stop Time, also by Matt Haig, is fabulous.

Ghosts looks good thank you @Mamabem

I will also look at the other books by Matt Haig, don't know which one to start with!

I've read Eleanor Oliphant and Grown Ups too.

Quite an old one but if you’ve not read it The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Alborn has a very similar vibe.

TheSweetestHalleluja · 31/12/2020 12:08

Thanks @Paymentconundrum I haven't read that one yet, sounds good.

I went straight from finishing the Midnight Library, to Half a World Away by Mike Gayle.

I loved both books so hope you like it too!

All of Matt Haig's books are brilliant but especially The Humans! It's one of my all time favourites. I also highly recommended Reasons to Stay Alive by him although that one is non-fiction but it is my favourite book ever, I've bought it for so many people as a gift and saw the stage play in maybe 2019 or early 2020.

TheSweetestHalleluja · 01/01/2021 16:12

Brilliant, thanks everyone for the suggestions, much appreciated.

I bought the Midnight Library after reading How to Stop Time by Matt Haig.

StripyHorse · 11/01/2021 23:48

Kate Atkinson - Life After Life

Or any of Matt Haig's books. I think How to Stop Time is still my favourite but it is a close call between that and The Midnight Library.

And I did love Half The World Away by Mike Gayle as suggested by PP

The end of Mr Y by Scarlett Thomas.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 18/02/2021 07:58

Not only because it is also library related (!) but I really enjoyed The Giver of Stars by John moyes soon after the midnight library though they aren't particularly similar.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 18/02/2021 09:35

Jojo Moyes even!

TheSweetestHalleluja · 18/02/2021 12:53

Ahh yes I've read The Giver of Stars too @lemonsaretheonlyfruit

I've recently had a huge sort out of our bookcases and boxed some off to music magpie so haven't bought any new ones yet. I do have the kindle app but its just not the same as a proper book...
