Well, it turns out I have read all the books by this Robert Galbraith chap after all...
Hoping he'll announce the next one soon.
Warning: thread hijack. Feel free to ignore and keep talking about Strike because I like that too.
So while I'm trying to ride out the bleakest January ever, does anyone have any (real) book recommendations for me?
I like - well, Robert Galbraith, obviously. My perfect book could be any genre, except horror or full-on romance. BUT, ideally it would have a romantic thread, a hint, or a slow burn. It needs to be really well-written - no cliches, clumsy sentences or implausible scenarios. There must be a happy or satisfying ending (this is important. I can read books with unhappy endings sometimes, but not right now). My favourite authors are Sayers, Heyer, Le Carre, Bujold and Austen, and I don't enjoy Bronte or Dickens. In recent times, I've loved all sorts of things, from Mary Stewart to Hilary Mantel to Jane Casey. I seem to prefer female authors, and I'm struggling to read anything too demanding at the moment, although I'd probably draw the line at chick lit unless it was nicely written and very funny.
I feel I'm coming across as quite high maintenance here.
