I sometimes think she's going to properly blindside us and have Strike 6 open with them waking up in bed together and when everyone loses their shit over it, she'll say "Have you read the other books? "

I love that idea! Hope you are reading this thread, JKR...

EllacottObsessive · 09/01/2021 20:27

Sad sack stat for you all - podcast of my inane waffling made it to 91 in the Apple podcast chart. It's dropped to 130 now, but WTF?Shock

The Big Time is coming for you, EO Grin

Anyone have any tips for getting the Deep Dive trending?

Lancelottie · 10/01/2021 11:57

Ooh, another podcast!
I am malingering with after effects of a migraine. This’ll be just the ticket.

(I’ve been rereading from the start of the series. In one book — I think it’s ‘Career of Evil’ — Robin recalls her childhood pony Angus as ‘Stubborn, shaggy, strong and adored’. Hmmm!)

MrFMercury · 10/01/2021 13:30

Having if not a website then some social media presence to direct people to/from and making the podcast easier to share?

Lancelottie · 11/01/2021 09:46

Thanks for the latest podcast, EO - really good thought provoking stuff.

Yes! Grin

So nothing like Matthew then...

Times in CoE when I just can't stop laughing at the great detective. Grin

Hello! I have been reading and enjoying but only got myself Troubled Blood for Christmas with some Christmas money. Finished it last week but then had to get through this enormous thread before I commented :o

I didn't really enjoy the first season of the TV show because Strike is so, so different looking in my head it bothered me, plus the way the story goes at such an astonishing pace, and in a weird order, but you have all convinced me to give Tom a chance so I have watched episode 1 of The Silkworm.

Love the fanfic links and will give the podcast a listen next time I have some washing to hang up.

EllacottObsessive · 11/01/2021 22:54

I understand they filmed the first three stories together, so yes, it does go at quite a lick. LW is given a bit more breathing space. Fingers crossed for nice, involved 6 parter for TB!!!

Did anyone else notice BTW near the beginning of Troubled Blood, Strike tells the wife of the bigamist they are tracing that she's going to need a "shit hot lawyer" :o

It made me wonder if JKR is a secret MNer who frequents the Relationships boards. It honestly wouldn't surprise me at all. And I know the phrase is used elsewhere, but it just felt like a little secret wave!

EllacottObsessive · 13/01/2021 17:57

Oh, definitely. This thread started because of one started in FWR about Robin making a remark about being a Radical Feminist Witch sounding rather cool and everyone let their glee about TB pour forth.

I'd be enormously surprised if she's never lurked, and I rather suspect she has an account.

So if our various suggestions/wishes for the next book come to fruition and/or Robin starts a trend for women wishing to smell like her we will know for sure. My perfume cheered me right up once I’d finished TB and DH got confirmed Covid so I’m proudly in the I Smell Like Robin club Grin

EllacottObsessive · 13/01/2021 21:27

(Me too!)

5th episode being written now. I had a nice afternoon basking in the glow of a finshed reread. Bliss.

Well if she is reading then I would like it to be known that I bitterly regret not writing a fan letter about the Harry Potter books when I was about 12 in 2000. I wanted to, but I didn't know what to write and also I kept procrastinating. Later on it seemed like she got too much Fan mail for any to ever make it through so I didn't bother then but she has been my absolute inspiration so just love that she's still putting out fantastic, feminist and incredibly readable books.

Is the casual vacancy any good? I haven't read that one.

EllacottObsessive · 14/01/2021 20:50

I've not read The Casual Vacancy. I had heard it was a bit of a tough read.

How about this for possibly how some of the adaptation of TB might work?

Absolutely brilliant. Genius. If they have to cut that chapter then they need to cut it exactly like this.

EllacottObsessive · 15/01/2021 00:00

Now, how can smuggle this into the actual BBC script without being rumbled?

OP posts:
MrFMercury · 15/01/2021 04:28

Yep that works perfectly, clear but also consistent with the characters. I can’t wait!

WarmHeyerette · 15/01/2021 07:19

The Casual Vacancy is good. Well written but quite scathing about politics and the deprivation/claustrophobia of some rural communities and so quite bleak in places.

I've never read it because I'm not sure I can handle bleak. (I'm more of a Georgette Heyer light-hearted romantic farce or Dorothy L Sayers carefully plotted detection with literary references kind of girl.)

There's a reet good series of crime fiction by Robert Galbraith that sound perfect for you Grin

Will check it out. Does it, perchance, have a Byronic(-ish) hero, a relatable heroine, vividly drawn characters, twisty and demanding plots, a detailed sense of place, a humorous and ironic detachment, and a feminist sensibility? Because that sounds right up my alley...

EllacottObsessive · 15/01/2021 17:57

All that plus TV adaptations and you can keep a hardback copy of the latest by the bed to thwack any intruders unconscious.

Frankly, it's the whole package.
