Setting this up for Strike and Ellacott fans to talk about spoilery things.

Shipping I honestly can't stop laughing at my new voice celebrity status.

The grim bit of Polworth's language may well not get in, but I will be quite sad if Mazankov and Krupov get get completely, though it is quite likely, of course.

Fingers crossed for the less high brow 'Shaggable You' dialogue at least.

I’m so glad I found this thread and that I can get the podcast on Apple now. Will doing a review per episode help @EllacottObsessive? I’m also loving reading everyone’s thoughts about the characters and the books because I don’t have anyone in real life to have these conversations with. Plus I feel like I’m getting lots of ideas and observations I’ve missed on my first reading. I probably need to go back, I was so excited I read it so quickly!

EllacottObsessive · 01/12/2020 22:04

You can review the podcast, you mean? Or have I misunderstood? (See how well I planned my rise to fame, I have no idea how this all works...) I mean sure, review, share, all that jazz. Bagsies available for everyone on the thread for the tech crew on the interview with Tom but you can all bugger off and leave him to me when it's done Grin

Yep on iTunes you can write a review. I don’t normally bother or just write one for the whole show but I think (from memory at it is the middle of the night) that the more reviews a show has the more likely other people will see it.

EllacottObsessive · 02/12/2020 11:05

Well in that case, a review would be lovely, thank you.

Rereading TB and just got to the bit where Robin is musing on her feelings for Strike whilst in the pub and wondering whether she loves him. One of the things that occurs is that if Robin has been with Matthew since school, how would she know? I mean she's only got That Twat to measure him against....

Come to think of it, Strike was in a relationship with Charlotte since university wasn’t he?

Biscuitsanddoombar · 02/12/2020 13:27

He was Empress! I think they’re both a bit inexperienced in that regard. We know Strije is more sexually experienced as Charlotte seemed to reappear in his life every time he tried to move on & slept with someone else. Since Charlotte, strike has dated Elin Toft in career of evil & lorelei in lethal white but those weren’t successful because he didn’t fall in love with either of them

parentalhelpline · 02/12/2020 17:02

That Twat Grin

Biscuitsanddoombar · 02/12/2020 17:41

Channelling my inner Strike Parental :D

Ive also been looking up the Special Investigation Branch of the RMP to see what Strike would have learned

EllacottObsessive · 02/12/2020 17:49

Can I just say, so much nailing down the themes and clever bits in TCC. I reckon JKR was chortling to herself in a few places. There's one bit where Strike is running things through in his head and the prose says he'd pretty much figured it out, all he needed was proof, and then the next paragraph begins with a phonecall from rabbity John Bristow. If I'd have written I'd be Muttley snickering to myself at the cunning.

Strike did also shag Ciara Porter, although that was just a one night stand.

Biscuitsanddoombar · 02/12/2020 21:30

(Boom) Strike’s inexplicable sexual magnetism

(Tv) Strike - no explanation needed....

Biscuitsanddoombar · 02/12/2020 21:31

Book not boom!

ShippingStrikeandRobin · 02/12/2020 21:39

Can we talk about some of the funny moments? My first laugh out loud moment was this:

^'What's your real name?'
'Robin.'
'Robin,' he repeated. 'That'll be easy to remember.'
He had some notion of making a jocular allusion to Batman and his dependable sidekick, but the feeble jest died on his lips as her face turned brilliantly pink. Too late, he realised that the most unfortunate construction could be put on his innocent words.^

Grin Poor Strike

EllacottObsessive · 02/12/2020 21:45

It took me SO long to get why it would be an embarrassing thing to say.

Grin
EllacottObsessive · 02/12/2020 22:15

The horoscope conversation where Robin tells Strike to stop pretending he doesn't know his Star Sign and then he comes out with his full natal chart. Both funny, and a lovely moment of teasing, flirty fun.

And the exchange in the picture, which actually gave me the giggles for a good ten minutes, because the deadpan repetition of the insults about his nephews was just so grumpy Strike hilarious.

Irene farting too. Childish, (and actually a clue!) but I can sort of see Robin and Strike's reaction in mind my mind's eye and I really hope this gets into the adaptation.

And definitely Robin thinking he'd like the vanilla perfume, and him saying "Because it smells like food?" It's funny and self deprecating and JUST KISS THE GIRL!!!

'Ye need tae learn tae read the fuckin' room, mate,' said Barclay, who was standing against the wall, arms folded, and seemed to be enjoying himself.

EllacottObsessive · 02/12/2020 22:31

❤ Barclay.

'I didn't think you fancied little women.'
'I dont,' Strike returned quietly. 'She nicked something for me yesterday.'
'Yeah? Well I'd show your gratitude by letting her go on top,' said Nick. 'You could squash her like a beetle.'

DulciUke · 02/12/2020 23:51

At some point, by the end of the series, I'd like Strike to meet Daddy Rokeby and rip him a new asshole. I always picture Mick Jagger as Rokeby, and assume that the character is at least partly based on him.

I didn't figure out who the murderer was (I never do with her books), but that made the unmasking chapter all that more delicious.

It's nice that the series isn't static and that there is real character growth as it goes on.

parentalhelpline · 03/12/2020 10:33

Pat really grew on me over the course of the book.

Lancelottie · 03/12/2020 12:06

Pat brings Strike hot soup when he’s ill. With some people you have to ignore the words, look at the actions.
