I read a book a while ago which I thought was great.... but I have forgotten the title!

It opens with a woman moving to the Shetland islands, and her horse dies so she has it buried in her fields. Upon digging the grave a woman’s body is found in the ground, and her body has all kinds of strange afflictions. Most notably that she was pregnant or had just given birth.

The woman is in a relationship with a guy on the island who is of good social standing but he doesn’t seem able to commit to her....

She befriends a policewoman And they begin to uncover a ghastly secret on the island - that her partner is involved in - woman are being taken away and forced to breed for the island, if they are unable or unwilling they are murdered....

Something along those lines!

Has anyone read a book like this ?! Help! :) x

Fascinating, but I've no idea!
The closest I can think of is Night Waking by Sarah Moss...but if it's that, then I think I didn't understand it!

Omg how weird I did google the storyline after you first posted and it kept coming up with Sacrifice but I thought nahh don’t think that’s it!
Anyway, Sharon Bolton’s sister was my old youth worker Grin
I’ve never read any of her books but my sister and mum really rate them!
