Captain Corelli's Mandolin?

"Shirley Valentine" playscript.

"Room With A View"

Something unputdownable - eg: "The Handmaid's Tale" or "Pride And Prejudice".

Something funny - eg: Bill Bryson's travels around Europe.

The Time Travellers Wife - cos it's ace

The Island - cos it's about sunny places (and lepers, though don't let that put you off)

Starter for 10 - cos it's hilarous

And two others (sorry, am brain dead!)

Will you really have time to read 5 books?

popsycal · 11/10/2007 19:38

For light relief, I enjoyed Bill Bryson's America book. Birdcage is good. I remember reading that in the south of France 7 years ago.....

second captain correlli

For an easy read, The Wrong Boy is interesting

Like Last orders by.....ooooh who. Graham Swift? That sounds wrong!

Othersideofthechannel · 12/10/2007 05:35

Yes, it is Graham Swift.

If you fancy a light read and a good chuckle, there are 2 books by the same bloke, now a tv presenter, called 'join me' and 'yes man'

made me laugh out loud lots of times

Mercy - "Will you have time to read 5 books?" That is precisely what my DP asked when I told him I had posed this question!

You are possibly away by now but I am off tomorrow and taking:-

The MN bookclub for Oct (the title of which is escaping me)

The Kite Runner

Behind the Scenes of the Museum by Kate Atkinson

A Piano in the Pyrannees by the Ireland with a Fridge man

That's only four, I'm not as optimistic as you, I'm sure at least two will be coming back unread.
