Thank you to whoever it was on mn that recommended Ann Patchett. Loving the Dutch House. So excited that I have many of her books ahead of me!

That might have been me before name change! Glad you are enjoying. It's a great feeling when you discover and author and know that there are lots of their books waiting to be read Smile

Love Ann Patchett- have only read Commonwealth and The Dutch House so far and looking forward to reading her others.

I often recommend Ann Patchett too. A really likeable person as well as an excellent writer; I am a big fan ever since I accidentally ended up at her author event at Hay on Wye (and had a chat at the signing table afterwards).

I recommend Bel Canto and State of Wonder especially.

I can really recommend "This is the story of a Happy Marriage" which is a collection of essays/magazine articles describing how she became a writer, her friendship with poet Lucy Grealy and opening an independent bookshop among much else. I loved it and will read again after I have read some of her earlier books.

Binglebong · 27/08/2020 21:33

I love Bel Conte but always been disappointed with her others. I want to love them.

Love Ann Patchett. Yes to Bel Canto and State of Wonder. I've been reading some of her earlier stuff too. Like the one about the magician. Can't remember what it's called now! Will report back when my memory is in gear!

Ellmau · 11/09/2020 17:02

The Magician's Assistant. I didn't like that one as much as her others.

Bel Canto and Run are my favourites.

Still have Taft and The Dutch House in my TBR pile.

TuttiFrutti · 11/09/2020 17:13

State of Wonder is one of my favourite books ever.

BrokenRing · 30/09/2020 20:01

Run and Bel Canto and The Dutch House are terrific. But I like all the others too. She's reliably good.

Tangfastica · 30/09/2020 20:03

Yup love the one based in the Amazon, State of Wonder.
