Just finished this and really enjoyed it. I wasn't sure I liked the main characters at first but gradually warmed to them. Lots of interesting plot twists.

Anyone else tried this?

I listened to the audio version narrated by Juliet Stevenson. I must admit I did not care for the first few chapters and found the main two characters really annoying. However, yes I warmed to them and was quite upset by certain events. The ex POW character, whilst providing an interesting commentary on how these men were treated after the war, was an unnecessary character in my opinion and I did not like those chapters.

I was just about to start a thread on this. I finished Miss Benson’s Beetle this morning and the ending made me cry. I’ve read all of her books and enjoyed each of them and I actually preferred perfect to Harold Fry.
I love the characterisation of Margery and Enid and how their friendship develops. For me, the POW chapters were really well done I found them very unsettling. Quite a few bits made me laugh out loud as well and I was surprised at how floored I was by the ending.
