Does anyone have any recommendations for a beautifully illustrated adults book that's a bit special?

I'm looking to buy something for a member of nursery staff where my youngest child is about to leave.....

This is very beautiful.

It depends what the person likes though. Some of the David Attenborough ones are lovely. And lots of art books, of course.

Or a cookery book? The Dishoom one is a thing of beauty.

The boy, the mole, the fox and the horse?

The velveteen rabbit ? But it has a slight Christmas theme at the start.

The wonderful things you will be ( but that's more a book for a baby to have as a keepsake.)

Some Winnie the Pooh's are classics.

I get quite emotional on the velveteen rabbit .. it's about toys being made real by children loving them and believing they are real.

The Menino is beautiful but possibly best suited for a new parent.

I have this one. Might be perfect for a member of nursery staff. The illustrations are beautiful.

Have a look at The Folio Society - beautiful editions of classics but also some more modern books. Not cheap though!

I don't know if I'd personally call it beautiful but Glass Town is an illustrated book about the Bronte sisters.

And there are some nice books with lasercut illustrations - Helene Druvert has one about Mary Poppins, and one about Paris www.amazon.co.uk/Paris-Up-Away-H%C3%A9l%C3%A8ne-Druvert/dp/0500650594/?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

This is beautiful www.amazon.co.uk/Fairytale-Princess-Classic-Stories-Enchanted/dp/0500650063/?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 but it's a book of fairytales

I have some saved in my wishlist but they're a bit melancholy, not really my idea of a gift! What kind of theme were you looking for?

Another vote for the Charles Mackesey - The Boy, The Mole, The Horse and The Fox. Just beautiful.

Standrewsschool · 09/08/2020 20:47

Also came on to mention “The Boy, mole etc”. It’s like an adult/modern Winnie The Pooh.

This might be off the mark but it's a beautiful book about children's book illustrations. Little bit out of date but hot a lot of the classics in. Gave it to my mum and she loved it.
