Anyone read this? I’ve just read it in a day (it’s very short) because I couldn’t put it down. Would love to hear what others thought.

It’s great, isn’t it? Very chilling

I thought so. And the build up of tension is so clever. I loved it. I thought it was Booker quality but it seems to have been overlooked.

I started this but couldn’t get into it . Maybe I should give it another go .

I've loved pretty much everything Sarah Moss has written and this was no exception. I love that it's a novella and she didn't pad it out beyond what was needed to tell the story, and the atmosphere is so beautifully conjured.

Yes you are right. The fact that it’s a novella is perfect - gives the story enough room to breathe but not too much so as to make it lose tension and coherence.

I really liked it - a short book but covered so much in a small space. A claustrophobic atmosphere, and wonderfully built tension in original ways.

Brilliant and awful - top class novella

I hated it.
Didn't finish it.
Loved her other books though.

Loved it. But the first chapter blows the rest out of the water

Loved it, and have given copies to people.

That incredible building of unacceptable behaviour into violent abuse. The way people normalise male violence, the enabling by the wife.

I thought it was a tour de force.
