I've just read this for the 2nd time, closely followed by One Good Turn and absolutely loved them. There were crazy but brilliant characters and fantastic plotting.
I was amused all the way through and obsessed about carrying on reading all the time.

Has anyone else read them, and can you recommend any more by this author?

good in a weird kinda way. I didn't find it unputtdownable though.

I worship Kate Atkinson - One Good Turn was the best book I've read in a long time. One of those books you keep thinking about for ages afterwards. And Gloria - what a great characterisation.
There's also a book of short stories by her I read recently - can't remember the name but excellent. Human Croquet and Behind the Scenes are both well worth reading.

Thanks for your responses; I've had one of those periods when you enjoy every book you pick up lately, and these two stood out in a good bunch.

I'm going to try some of her others soon; I'm reading Black Swan Green by David Mitchell, today. I was reluctant as I thought Cloud Atlas was amazing, but I'm loving it.

I'm sure to pick up something dire soon....I buy too many books for them all to be exellent. (charity shop bargains usually!)

I loved them, and all her others except Emotionally Weird which I never finished. Felt just the same as Pruni about it.

tiredemma · 28/09/2007 22:51

I loved it would love to read more of her books.

which other ones are good?

Tamum · 29/09/2007 19:08

tiredemma, I think Case Histories and One Good Turn are slightly different from the others, but Behind the Scenes at the Museum and Human Croquet are both fantastic IMHO.

dropscone · 29/09/2007 22:43

case histories - excellent !

funnypeculiar · 29/09/2007 22:46

Love ALL of hers - the short stories book is called 'Not The End of the World' More magic realist than the others, I'd say, but v clever, witty, wierd.

tiredemma · 29/09/2007 22:47

do they have the same slight humour that was in case histories?

stleger · 29/09/2007 22:51

I loved the novels but not the short stories. I must try them again.
