persephone book delivery

OK I placed an order for three books with persephone press - cost including delivery for 3 books was £40.

I was very surprised when they arrived today. The packaging wasn't great Each arrived in a separate cardboard envelope - no bubble wrap inner or cushioned envelope. One of the thicker books was shoved into an envelope that was too small for it and the spine has been damaged in the post as a result.

I expected the books to be boxed and with some sort of protective packaging. Is this the normal way they send books via Persephone? I've only ordered via bookshops before.

Not sure whether to complain or not. I am very disappointed and expected a better service

I think you should definitely complain about the damaged one. I have a couple of these somewhere but didn't buy them direct from Persephone. The postage is quite steep. I checked the website £2.50 per book which is fine for one book but no postal discount for buying three. I'm sure they will replace the damaged one. Probably somebody working there who doesn't usually pack books.

I've only had them direct from the bookshop and they sent them out in pretty, tissue-paper wrapping. But seem to recall reading on their site that they changed to using a separate distribution company recently. So sure they would want feedback about any issues, although maybe staffing issues at warehouse are causing problems, imagine staff shortages because of the virus are widespread. Could contact via Twitter if you're on that.

Thanks
I wasn't sure if I was being a bit precious or not but I feel I have paid quite a lot for postage and expected better.

I've ordered from them a few times, probably last was about a year ago, and I thought the packaging was a bit inadequate & a couple have had minor damage like the corners squashed a bit. I think they only do the tissue paper if you pay for gift wrap. They are quite expensive and 'special' books, so it would be nice if they arrived in a box or something a bit nicer and more protective.

I've had books delivered to me recently from a book club that hasn't been able to wrap books as they normally would due to Covid. Could that be the same with Persephone?

I got my Persephone newsletter this week, the insert for placing orders states under
details of Post and Packaging:

They are sent individually in cardboard envelopes so that they fit through a standard letter box; should a book arrive damaged we replace it free of charge.

Their email contact is given as [email protected]

pigoons · 01/06/2020 20:10

I emailed Persephone and they agreed to replace the book no problem as I sent photos. However they wish me to return the damaged one which is a bit of a pain given the Covid situation... my nearest post office is miles away ...

pigoons can you just put it in a postbox? You can print post labels on the royal mail website if Persephone haven't given you one.

@larklight
Thanks - that's a good idea.
