Another "Can you help me remember the title" thread. WW2 Diary

A few year ago I read two books that were written as the diary of a middle aged woman in WW2. It wasn't "Housewife 49". It was quite funny.

One incident I remember is the main character was asked to play triangle for the local orchestra but she couldn't really read music so it was very hit and miss if she came in at the right time.

Ring any bells?

I think it is Henrietta's War by Joyce Dennys or the book that followed it?

Clawdy · 10/05/2020 12:48

Or Nella Last's War? Don't remember the triangle though!

Or could it be E M Delafield, Provincial Lady In Wartime? Definitely funny.

EM Delafield's entire collected works available for 99p on kindle atm btw.

I don't remember Nella Last playing the triangle, but it is the sort of thing she would have commented on (if someone couldn't play it/read music).

@Panticus
Thank you. You have got it. There are two books I believe:
"Henrietta's War" and "Henrietta Sees it Through"

I just looked at the synopsis of the second one and it included this:

"Henrietta takes up weeding and plays the triangle in the local orchestra to take her mind off things; "

Funny how such a small detail stuck in the mind when I couldn't even remember the title. I borrowed them both from the library a few years ago and now have a longing to read them again, I will have to get them from Amazon I suppose

5foot check your local library online - many libraries are releasing e-books for their users.
