FIL likes to think he is interlectual (as you can tell I can't even spell it!). Can anyone suggest a novel or book of poetry I can send him? He also likes to think he is a bit new agey!

Please help me not have to trawl through Amazon!

If you don't have a very clear idea of his tastes (i.e favourite authors, or poets) why don't you send an anthology of poetry or short stories? Norton anthology of poetry (or modern poetry) is a good trawl through a wide range of stuff, or if you did a search you could prob find some short story compliations that have won a few prizes.

Send him an Amazon gift voucher then he can trawl through Amazon himself.

Melvyn Bragg did a book called 12 books that changed the world or something that my FIL loves. Ideal for armchair pseudointellectuals IMO. Here it is pseudy crap

Not really what you asked for but how about one the Dangerous Book for Boys type book. Bought it on a whi for my difficult FIL and was quite amazed at how much he loved it, says it takes him back to his boyhood!
