Funny Book Recommendations Please

Hi, I am normally a thriller junkie but I fancy reading something humorous for change, and to cheer me up. I read "Cooking With Fernet Branca" last year which is one the funniest books I have ever read, and would like to find something similar. So, British please (definitely not American) and ideally contemporary, or at least not historical. And must be well written - no offence but no chick-lit please. Thank you!

Gervaise Phinn (but not "All the Lonely People")
Gerald Durrell's "My Family and Other Animals" trilogy - absolutely Laugh out loud books
Gill Sims's "Why Mummy..." trilogy are funny too and contemporary.
"Stubble and Stilettos" and the "Misfit Mummy" ones by Amanda Egan are good too.

I'll offer;

Kathryn Wallace's two books are in the same vein as Gill Sims-not chick lit but funny and highly observant :)

Richard Roper's -'Something to live for' is an excellent tale of how a small lie can unravel and come back to haunt you!

If non-fiction is more your genre then Sara Cox-Til the Cows Come Home' about growing up in the north. Plenty of humorous anecdotes and nostalgia guaranteed.

I found Richard Ayoade’s ‘Ayoade On Top’ very funny. I listened to it on Audible (he reads it).

Another book that made me laugh recently was Whisky Galore. It might be a bit old for your liking but it’s very good.

Thanks for the recommendations everybody - really helpful. Having read the Amazon reviews I have decided to plump for Richard Roper's 'Something To Live For' which sounds exactly what I was looking for. If still in the mood I and may also get Richard Ayoade's 'Ayoade On Top'. Thanks again.

Cold Comfort Farm always gets me, and In The Pursuit of Love

There is a list recently posted on Twitter by Maggie O'Farrell's husband too, I will try and find it.

Not sure if it'll be up your street OP but I reread all the Adrian Mole books last year and they are hilarious. Great social commentary too.
