I'm going away and would like something I can get my teeth into. I enjoyed The Hunger Games Trilogy although didn't think I would. Handmaids tale and The Testaments. I particularly like historical fiction. Was thinking of the Ken Follett trilogy Kingsbridge. Please give me some suggestions. Thankyou.

Deborah Harkness A Discovery of Witches. It's a trilogy. Long books but very good. I think I am going to reread them this year.

Have you read the CJ Sansom Shardlake series?

A great mixture of Tudor history and mystery.

The first one is Dissolution, set in a monastery. Most of the others are set in London.

I've only read the first four so have some catching up to do.

Thanks v much. I will have a look at that one.

Shardlake is bloody marvellous! I've enjoyed a trilogy of space boos by Becky Chambers - the first one is called A long way to a small angry planet.

I liked the Ken Follett books a lot- hes a brilliant storyteller, and I became more I terested than I expected about the mechanics of cathedral building! I would also recommend City Of Brass by Shannon Chakroboty. It's a series of 3 books (the third is due out this year) based on Muslim folklore, set in 19th century near/middle east. A great page turner, but it's also got some interesting things to say about living in a city historically occupied by many different groups of people. I think the 1st one is on a 99p deal on kindle, and I was sucked in by about the 5th page!

The Becky Chambers books look interesting and not something I'd normally go for but I really want to broaden my horizons and read some different genres. Thanks

I love a 99p kindle book. I was going to buy the Ken Follett books on kindle. They're 5.99 each though and I reckon I probably would end up buying all of them if I like the 1st one. Thankyou for your recommendations they're all going on my goodreads account.

I was going to recommend Beckie Chambers too. Set is space, the books have a lovely human aspect. I've re-read the first two and now I'm reading the third one.

I also like Robert J Crane books. I like Southern Watch but it's dark. I'd recommend the Sànctuary and Girl in a Box series, both are in Kindle Unlimited.

The Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovitch are fab. Have you read the Mad Addam trilogy by Margaret Atwood - Oryx & Crake, Year of the Flood and Mad Addam? Brilliant series.

mrsjackrussell · 04/02/2020 08:03

@MaudebeGonne no I haven't read any of those and particularly like Margaret Attwood. Thankyou
