I am looking for a new book to read. I want to feel inspired. I suffer with low moods, anxiety and low self confidence and would love to read a book that makes me feel 'wow so this is what life is all about'

Anyone able to make an recommendations?

The Happiness Trap

It is based on ACT- Acceptance Commitment Therapy.

How to Win Friends and Influence People. There's a reason it's been in print for so long.

Your Money or your Life is strangely confidence building too.

Get to the route of the low self esteem (e.g. trauma, child abuse, bullying, narcissistic family member) and then read a book on that.

Or the mindful way through depression is good

It's not a self help book as such, but I found Wild by Cheryl Strayed really inspirational for someone who has lost their way. She has also written a couple of actual self help books but I haven't read those.

I also like the Dalai Lama's writing.

I've heard Reasons To Stay Alive by Matt Haig is really good if you're feeling low. I'm looking to get a copy, heard nothing but good things about it.

It's not really a self help book but I would recommend Dr Raj Chatterjee's book 4 Pillars. He explains how a lot of your problems with mood, depression etc can be attributed to physical causes especially due to cortisol imbalance. It gives practical advice on how to improve relaxation, diet, sleep and exercise to feel better.

Feel the Fear and do it anyway, by Susan Jeffers.

I clicked on the thread to recommend Feel the Fear too. Excellent book.

The Body Keeps The Score by B Van Der Kolk
It has the most amazing insights into trauma and how it manifests, and most importantly how to heal it.
A very beautiful book

I also was going to recommend a Dr Chatterjee book. He has a new one out or you could look at Four Pillar Plan or The Stress Solution.

Thank you everyone!! I am going to have a google of all of these books and see which one I think might be best for me to begin with Smile

Dare by Barry McDonagh is a book about fixing anxiety with a different take on it.
The Dance of Anger I read years ago and some bits have really resonated. It's by Harriet Lerner.
Woman on the Edge of a Nervous Breakdown by Lorna Martin was another book that stuck with me. Terrible title but the writer goes through long term counselling, she is a journalist and this was a newspaper column before it was turned into a book.

Another vote for The 4 Pillar Plan from me too.
