I’ve just finished reading this for the first time. It’s quite amazing and I feel as though I’ve discovered a new friend.

Are there any other Silas Marner fans out there? Apparently it was George Eliot’s own favourite.

Read it at school when I was 15. I’ve always loved it. Quite enjoyed the movie version with Steve Martin, A Simple Twist of Fate, too. Haven’t seen the one with Ben Kingsley.

I've only read Adam Bede which I absolutely loved. I have Silas on my Kindle so perhaps this is the year.

Thanks Bluerussian - I struggled a bit with the actual novel so have saved the YouTube dramatisation to watch.

That happens. Sometimes watching a dramatisation of something has prompted me to read the book.

When my son was at school his class did 'Watership Down'; I won't he struggled but couldn't be bothered to read it. I got a video of the film and we watched it, he enjoyed that.

He had to write about the book and did so in class; I saw the writing after it had been marked. The teacher wrote (in red), "How did you know that the bird spoke with an Eastern European accent?". :-). I chuckle at the memory of that.

Should have said, "I won't say he struggled..".
