Hello MN, would be grateful for some audiobook recommendations. Good fiction, or gripping memoir.

These are for a long car journey to start a holiday, so nothing TOO depressing or harrowing please.

Two I've listened to recently that I loved:

  • Why Be Happy ... Jeanette Winterston
  • Wild by Cheryl Strayed.

TIA for any recommendations.

The Tent, the Bucket and Me by Emma Kennedy. A very funny biographical account of family holidays. They turned it into a tv show but only did one series.

I've got a 45 minute commute and so.listen to a lot of audio books. I've just listened to "Unleashing Demons" by Craig Oliver. It's his account of the Brexit referendum. I found it gripping.

On the fiction side I've recently enjoyed "The Silence of the Girls" by Pat Barker and "Little Fires Everywhere" by Celeste Ng.

Tina Brown’s Vanity Fair Diaries
Another Planet by Tracey Thorn (Everything But The Girl singer talks about growing up in suburbia)
Bad Blood by John Carreyrou - extraordinary tale of hubris and fraud

I'm quite fussy about audible books and don't hesitate to return them if the narrator/story don't appeal. This year I have really enjoyed Behind the Scenes at the Museum, Life After Life, Rebecca and Hercule Poirot's Christmas. I am currently listening to The Woman in White (narrated by Ian Holm) and loving it so much that I'm going to listen to everything else by Wilkie Collins.

I've recently enjoyed listening to both Once Upon a River and The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. I've not long finished The Pursuit of Love and will be following up with Love in a Cold Climate when I go back to work and my commute.
