Miss M is my fave, but am now also coming to the end of the omnibus set of 4 books per decade by AC. hoping somebody can suggest a similar author? I do also enjoy stuff like the morse books, but love AC mysteries. TIA.

Partrica Cornwell?

forensic stuff it is.....

Ngaio Marsh is a similar Golden Age detective novelist (from roughly the same period - cosy, complex plots, country houses etc)
Margery Allingham also similar -her detective is Albert Campion.
Or Dorothy L Sayers, slightly more intellectual but featuring the lovely Lord Peter Wimsey.
I'd read every single one!

also there are series written now but set in 20s/30s:- David Roberts has written a series with Verity Browne, Charles Todd has a series with Inspector Rutledge, Jacquelien Winspeare has a series with Maisie Dobbs

From golden age - Josephine Tey, ?Edmumnd Crispin.

Georgette Heyer wrote some mysteries that I thought had a similar style to Agatha Crisie.

Love Josephine Tey and, if you can get them from the library or second-hand, the excellent Colin Watson Flaxborough series. Unbelievable that these gems are currently out of print!
This is a cracker too
and as well as being brilliant in its own right this also has several of Aloha's and totalchaos' suggestions in its "also bought" list...

I really like the Miss Seeton books. She's rather bumbling but in a sweet way.

eidsvold · 27/08/2007 04:20

Mary Daheim - 2 cousins like sisters again solving mysteries.

Marcia Muller - Sharon McCone - PI central character

Mary Higgins Clark - few with Alvirah Meehan as the central character unravelling mysteries.

have women as central characters - mysteries.

Before you hit Amazon check out Read it Swap it as you might be able to get some of them for the price of posting some of your old books.

My mum likes the Agatha Raisin books by CM Beeton (she who wrote Hamish McBeth), I've read a couple but they are a bit lightweight, and in places just silly.
I like the Agatha Christie, but Poirot is my favourite of her detectives.
