How quickly they forget

I have just read a thread about books that are read and re-read and it made me think about those authors that for what ever reason have not attracted that kind of on going love. For example I loved Ruth Rendall and her alter ego Barbara Vine and read and re-read lots of her books when I was younger - but it wouldn't occur to me to do that now.
Any one else have a beloved author suffer the same fate?

I used to love Agatha Christie, but I don't find them very readable any more. I've kept my collection in case I change my mind.

I absolutely loved all of Bill Bryson's books and read them all pretty regularly. But his last one (not The Body, whatever was before that) was rubbish. He just seemed like a grumpy old git, and what was billed as a 'UK tour' was in fact a tour of places near London in case his daughter went into labour

I read every single Stephen King book age 14/15, and haven't reread any of them except The Stand, and that was only for tips, should Nevada explode.

Oh yes, Stephen King is another one. Up until a couple of years ago I still bought his books out of loyalty but I haven't even considered buying his latest. Such a shame!

I'm another Ruth Rendell / Stephen King former fan too. I haven't read any of their books for years and years and can't think of anything worse than horror now.

Another big re-reader here.
Favourite authors are pd James, ruth Rendell, Susan hill, and i often come back to books and authors years later.
I try not to get rid of books, as i know i will read them again sooner or later.
Reading old and new Stephen King at the moment, and bill bryson sometimes.
Looking to come back to iris murdoch and Daphne du Maurier soon.

@IfWishesWereFishes I'm totally with you on BB's books - all brilliant up till the last one. I read and read them and it's like having a chat with an old friend.

One other tip if you love re-Reading well-written books:

Douglas Adams and Mark Cawardine, Last Chance To See. The writing is pure heaven and I read it most months, and have done for decades.

I can also reread anything by Elizabeth Goudge; Georgette Heyer; and early Jilly Cooper.
