About 50 pages in and it feels like hard work, yet so many people rave about it.

Is it worth keeping going and getting to the good bit?

I loved it but if you don't, drop it. There are so many books to read and so little time to do so!
Don't wasted precious hours on it if you don't click and reading is pure pleasure, if you don't get any pleasure from it, what's is the point!

I hated the Da vinci code and everyone was crazy about it. The plot was original but I found it so badly written it wasn't giving me anything but irritation. So the opinion of a crowd is not a measure applicable to an individual

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/11/2019 14:18

I gave up. So much back story. So boring.

Silverstreaks · 18/11/2019 18:43

I loved it but it is definitely a slow burn and when I read it was on a holiday in Turkey so it resonated.

Pass it on to someone.

AnduinsGirl · 18/11/2019 18:44

I couldn't get into it despite my brother raving about it. don't waste your time!

peachesforfree · 18/11/2019 18:49

If you managed to get past the utterly ludicrous murder scene on the first page, you may as well continue to the end as it is relatively gripping. When I read it I thought only a man could make such a clumsy reference to some Jimmy Choos!

bellinisurge · 18/11/2019 18:51

S'alright . If I remember it picked up a bit.
Nothing earth shattering.

Hoppinggreen · 18/11/2019 18:54

I liked it

Dapplegrey · 18/11/2019 18:56

I was disappointed. So many people raved about it.

Luckystar1 · 18/11/2019 18:57

I absolutely loved it, I am one of those ravers 😂

Palegreenstars · 18/11/2019 19:20

It was one of the worst books I’ve read this year, the pace was ok but otherwise cliched drivel 😬

Sureitllbegrand · 18/11/2019 19:45

Keep reading, I only really go into it from about 300 pages! It is a slow burner but I really enjoyed it.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/11/2019 19:59

If it takes 300 pages to get into, it shouldn't have been published. Life is too short to trawl through 300 pages before getting to the good bit!

TravellingSpoon · 19/11/2019 11:45

Yeah I couldnt do it any more. It felt too much like hard work.

I did and I enjoyed it but I was expecting an amazing twist and there wasn't one. It's fine but unworthy of the hype.

MissKittyBeaudelais · 20/11/2019 19:12

I loved this book. However, it’s a big book so if you’re only 50 pages in and not getting it, I’d stop.

BootyMcBootFace · 21/11/2019 19:14

I really enjoyed this, but I was gripped from the beginning. I have a 100 page rule that if I'm not enjoying a book by then I dutch it

ShinyMe · 23/11/2019 19:44

I hated it. Read the lot, but thought it was utter nonsense, cliched drivel and pretty sexist as well. Kept going because people really talked it up. It was quite a quick read though, so might be worth persevering. But I also think life's too short to waste on something you're not enjoying. I hated it so much I left it behind in the shower block in a campsite.

panticus · 24/11/2019 11:03

I thought is was utter crap and gave up early too. I'm going to go out on a tenuous and judgmental limb and guess that those who liked it also liked Shantaram Hmm

Suzysleep · 24/11/2019 11:04

I also gave up on it and really don't understand the hype. Move on, life's too short for finishing bad novels!
