Your ideal reading spot?

Do you have an ideal reading spot? Can be fantasy or reality.

I have noticed that since moving into my current house, how much I read has reduced and it’s made me think of how important where I read is to me. My current living room is quite dark and north facing, and I think the lack of daylight means curling up with a book is unappealing. I still read in there frequently, but it tends to be in short bursts.

So my current favourite reading spot is a quiet café on a Friday afternoon. I finish work early and it’s my little oasis for a few hours when nobody has any claims on my time 😊. Comfortable seat by the window, a cup of tea and a sandwich and I’m good until the local college lets out and it’s my cue to leave.

In my dreams, I’d love a warm, light filled garden room overlooking a beautiful mature garden full of trees (including willows and those beautiful red Japanese maple trees). Wing-backed chair in the corner, with the seat wide enough for me to tuck my legs up and a coffee table at my elbow high enough that I don’t need to bend down to pick up my cup of tea. Bliss!

On a sun lounger on holiday. I have nothing else to do or think about so I can just release myself to a great book.

every night i go to bed before my dp so i can have a couple hours reading if i could id have a huge big more comfy bed as many dogs as possible though i do always have 2 anyway, a big box of chocolates and a nice cup of tea but most important my house would be on a beach front so when i fancied getting up i could lie on the beach to read

We're looking at a house at the moment that has a biggish hall. There's a window and double doors on the south side (taking up basically that whole wall), opening into the garden. There's a corner beside the window that would take a wingback chair, footstool and little table beautifully. The only problem is, there'll be fights over it...

I’ve just refurbed my sitting room and bought a wing-back chair specifically for curling up and reading in. With an angle poised standard lamp beside it and a small table for a cup of tea.

Youngest son is moving out in a few days and although he’s great and I’ll miss him I’m going to have more spare time, much of which will hopefully be spent in my new chair Smile

utterly I might be fighting you for that spot too! Envy

And Highland I hope you're new chair brings you much reading pleasure.

I have to admit to being useless at reading on a sun lounger / in bed. I like taking a tome on holiday to really get stuck into but then struggle to hold it comfortably led down. I have a Kobo, but it's not the same...

I tend to read in bed when I'm at home, although sometimes on my new couch which is super comfy, with a fluffy blanket.

But my favourite spot was on a dock, by a lake, at a house we stayed in this summer. The internet at the house was very hit and miss which was great, because instead I just sat in an adirondack chair on the dock, surrounded by books and magazines. It had shady spots and sunny spots, and it was so peaceful. I took a blanket down there when it was a bit windy. I've never read quite so much.

I've recently made a conscious effort to go back to reading physical books but the downside is needing better light sources, (Book lights are only ok), so it restricts where I comfortably read now. I'm a terrible fidget and move around a lot to read!

My fantasy would be to row a skiff up the river at the end of my garden (I don't live by a river) to tie up under a willow on a warm summer's day. There'd be plenty of cushions , peace and quiet. And bottle of chilled white wine to hand! Grin

A huge kingsize day bed with a canopy and lots of cushions by a swimming pool on Rab island, Croatia would be my idea of heaven. Oh i would need a little bell to ring for tea

I love reading in bed or in the bath. If I'm on the sofa and it's not summer, I like to have a hot water bottle and/or a couple of blankets - cosiness is vital.

I used to be a National Trust member, and one of the things I liked looking out for when we went to visit NT places was lovely spots for reading - window seats, big comfy chairs, secluded corners of the garden, etc.

The bath. Nowhere else is half as good for reading.

Either in bed before going to sleep or on our armchair reading to my DS
