I like to listen to podcasts when I go to sleep and if I wake in the night but often find them annoying/jarring/too funny so I've decided audiobooks with the sleep timer are the way to go.

I am looking for lovely soothing books with cosy themes and great narrators please Smile

I like the Agatha Raisin series by MC Beaton read by Penelope Keith.

Have a look at the BBC sounds app. The Radio 4 book at bedtime should be on there among other things.

Radio 4 is too annoying I may have drifted off to sleep and it gets to the end of the drama and some loud noisy trailer for something random comes on.

Bill Bryson is really good as although interesting his voice is soft and mellow and with the sleep timer on it works really well.

Stephen Fry is good with Heroes and Mythos.

Not an audio but a podcast recommended here, They Walk Among Us because the narrator has such a gentle soporific voice.

I love the Just William audio books read by Martin Jarvis . Nothing bad or sinister ever happens and they’re usually quite funny

Some lovely suggestions here, thank you all! I have started listening to Bill Bryson narrating A Short History with the sleep timer and I love him deeply but his voice does the job in sending me off to nigh nighs. I don't think I've heard more than 5 minutes of it before dropping off Grin

I prefer not to listen to podcasts at bedtime for the reason pp mentions, I'll just be cosily dropping off and suddenly Matt Berry will shout ABSOLUTE RADIO or an American will start bellowing about putting smart to work or squarespace.

I love the Outlander series. Love Davina Porter as a narrator. She has done some Phillipa Gregory

I listen to BBC Sounds and put stories on a timer. Nothing exciting, no comedies, no podcasts. Agatha Christie, Sherlock Holmes, Carlton Hobbs. All interesting but boring at the same time. Sends me to sleep every time.

This Sceptred Isle on Audible. Lovely soothing voice, it's history so it doesn't matter if you miss a bit, and there are many episodes!
