Gone with the wind ? I know its not really the happy after story but its a great read nonetheless.

try The Island by Victoria Hislop - lots of romance in there!

mamasin · 14/08/2007 16:59

Any Barbara Taylor Bradford? you'll be turned in to a dynamic Emma Harte figure in no time!Blacky mmm
Don't go for Danielle Steel (sp)I think

The Black Swan - Day Taylor
Don't know if it could be called intelligent but it's definitely an epic romance.

Wheelybug · 14/08/2007 17:07

Something Daphne Du Maurier - ish. Not classic romantic but something like Frenchman's creek or Kings General ?

Vikram Seth's 'Two Lives' isn't romantic in the slushy sense but definitely about a great love (and very interesting

Didnt you start the thread about looking for the 5 minute orgasm thread a few days ago?

a black englishman by carolyn slaughter.

Katherine by Anya Seton. Not sure if it's still in print though.
Far from the Madding Crowd? I love Gabriel Oak.

Read ALL the Georgette Heyer novels! You can't get more romantic than that!

Well, it is a light read but I just love 'The Rector's Wife' by Joanna Trollope.

And I'm not ashamed to admit it.

Much

The Time-Travellers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger is the most romantic book I have ever read. It is lovely. I bought it as a present for all my female friends and family the x-mas after I read it I loved it so much!

funnypeculiar · 14/08/2007 20:03

Time Travellers Wife - if you haven't already - both romantic AND sexy... can't loose

funnypeculiar · 14/08/2007 20:03

lol, x-post

The bridges of Madison county. I know its an old title but its the only fiction I have ever bawled my eyes out at.
Mind you I was single then, now I would just say 'keep your knickers on you are married'.

meandmyflyingmachine · 14/08/2007 20:12

I find Busman's Honeymoon by Dorothy L Sayers very romantic. But then I am a bit odd.

luckylady74 · 14/08/2007 20:16

the time travellers wife is fab and romantic, but you know what crept into my head? being 15 and reading 'The Thornbirds' now that's romance!

I read it as a teenager too .

Do you think it would be the same as a 'grown-up'?

yogimum · 14/08/2007 20:43

bridges of madison county is very romantic but will make you cry.

MegBusset · 14/08/2007 20:45

Forget everything else. It has to be Wuthering Heights.
