Books for moody teenagers

A poster on another thread has a moody teenager and I wondered whether we could come up with a list of novels that a 14 year old girl who seems angry with her family might like. It would be good if some of the books were funny.

I was thinking along the lines of Marian Keyes' Walsh family books, in particular Rachel's Holiday.

Any ideas?

Catherine Jinks The Reformed Vampire Support Group and The Abused Werewolf Group ate funny and chock-full of teenage angst.

A personal favourite is Jane Gardam’s Bilgewaterabout a clever girl coming of age.

Although it might seem a bit young for her, Libby Hathorn’s Thunderwith is a wonderful book about a young girl dealing with major changes in her life. I’ve read it twice and it’s been many years since I was a teenager.

I meant to add another one: Jessica Morgan and Heather Cocks Spoiled and Messy. Again, a young girl coming to terms with the loss of her mother and discovering her father. I don’t want to spoil the story, but they’re very funny and very sharply observed.

The Angus, Thongs and full frontal snogging series of books are funny.

This isn't what you probably want to hear, but as a really disturbed and misunderstood 14 year old, 'Wuthering Heights' really validated me

Same here I loved wuthering heights at that age! And Jane Eyre to a lesser extent.

A bit late to the party, but how about Born Confused?

I read it at a similar age and adored it. Was quite popular in the US I think, but not over here for some reason. Book is about an Indian girl growing up in the USA and balancing the expectations of her family and society. It’s a typical misunderstood teenager sort of book, but written fantastically and is very funny in places as the protagonist wrestles with her identity. The protagonist is also an older teen, which I always preferred reading about at that age (although the book is definitely suitable for mid teens)
