Help me find this children’s book.....

I found it about 2 years ago - someone had a copy for £120.....but have since forgotten the name.

I would have read it in the v late 1970s. It was a girls novel - paperback - the front cover was a close up of a girls face and she was wearing a gold crown. I don’t think that the novel was period - and can’t remember the significance of the crown. But I would love to find it and see what it was that hooked the 10 year old me. Sorry so vague ......

Can recall any of the plot?

I think it was about her going on a long journey alone ?

No wonder that haunted me! Think I read it when my own life turned upside down with death of a parent followed by sudden overnight move to another country

I remember that book. It was wonderful.

It's for sale on Amazon at very reasonable prices, used and new.

Oh I read that too but had completely forgotten it. Would be interested to know what you make of it when you re-read!

Yes it’s arrived - getting stuck in - really impressive vocabulary for a 9 year old - some words I don’t know even now! Will update again

There was a thread about this book only last week. It is haunting. Particularly the line, ‘people can be so careless with children’ (may be slightly misquoted - it’s 30+ years since I read it).
