Just wondered who you are as I have noticed in my browsing that there are a few of us around!

In RL ? Not likely nomoremagnolia
ShowofHands is on mat leave but I have seen Turquoise and Lilymaid around recently.
And compo, like me apparently, is married to another librarian too

nomoremagnolia · 07/08/2007 21:12

What's not likely? (sorry am I being thick?)

I thought you might have been asking who we were in RL sorry!
I do wonder sometimes who some of us are "in the profession", but think it is more discreet not to speculate too much
Califrau, I need to get dh to tweak our firewall. I can't play Scrabble or poke people at the moment
I sent you a pressie as a placatory gesture though

nomoremagnolia · 07/08/2007 21:32

Oh! No I just wanted to 'meet' you online! I saw another thread a while ago about someone who was a librarian married to a librarian and wondered how many MN librarians there were. I don't want to know any RL details except I'll say that I work in a public library service in the southwest area and have previously worked in three other local authorities in the the south east.

That's what I meant - sorry for the confusion! I met an ex-librarian on MN once too, we were defending the library service on an AIBU? thread a few months ago.

hello Marina and CF

nomoremagnolia · 07/08/2007 21:38

Do it It's the best job in the would (IMO)

OP posts:
berolina · 07/08/2007 21:40

I can't afford to retrain (I am/was something like an academic and am now Working To Pay The Bills, or I was before mat leave)

Marina · 07/08/2007 21:41

I still love it too, despite its less than glam image in the wider world
20 years in the profession this summer, ye Gods
Berolina, I know you'd love it, and you'd be very good at it IMO

Oh, you can do distance learning very economically at Aberystwyth or Northumbria missus.
And get online coaching from the profession's finest right here while you are at it

berolina · 07/08/2007 21:43

oooooh! What a lovely compliment! Thankyou Marina

CF - do! (I have a Vague Scheme to start a CEL in Bln - can you believe there isn't one?)

Marina · 07/08/2007 21:44

I'd do it califrau. American qualifications are readily accepted over here should you relocate again and their training is excellent

berolina · 07/08/2007 21:45

Might look into the distance learning. Would I have to do placements though?

Miaou · 07/08/2007 21:46

oooh thanks for reminding me! My local library needs relief staff and are v keen for me to enquire - must ring the ALO tomorrow!!

Marina · 07/08/2007 21:47

I was about to Pass a Remark about you abandoning the profession just because you moved away, but now, of course, you are much more handily placed miaou

bookthief · 07/08/2007 21:52

I'm a hospital librarian on Mat leave. Retrained from bookselling 5 years ago and it's the best decision I ever made.

I was having a good moan with a couple of fellow librarians last weekend at how tumbleweeds start flying around when you tell people you're in the profession so it's nice to see the .

Miaou · 07/08/2007 21:53

Absolutely!! Ds2 is being very obliging and having three hour gaps between feeds, so I could easily do a morning or afternoon there

Thank you Marina

CF - I should really, I must actually! Astonishing that there isn't anything like it. How much do you know about the ins and outs, organisational/admin side etc.? I'll email.

stleger · 07/08/2007 23:21

I qualified but never practised...
