I'm reading it at the moment Doziduck. The jury is out thgouh as far as i'm concerned so far, I dont find it enthralling but I also haven't given up on it (I'm about a third of the way through).
I would say though, do not read it if you are pregnant and a worrier. I won't say more than that as I dont want to spoil the story line but a huge part of the story is not mentioned at all on the 'blurb' on the back of the book and it could be upsetting for anyone due to give birth.

Agree with you there mckenzie, although I discovered this too late, I am 4 months pregnant and I blubbed from about a 3rd of the way on!

I did think it was good though, but def has me a bit spooked.

mckenzie · 23/09/2004 17:12

have just finished this book now. Are you reading it doziduck now?

doziduck · 24/09/2004 14:40

Hi,
No, had to give it up, just ciouldn't get into it somehow. What did you think of it?
I have started reading 'fingersmith' by Sarah Waters now instead.

I'm glad I persevered as I really got into it to the extent that my bedtimes were getting later and later!

bakedpotato · 24/09/2004 19:31

mckenzie, thanks for that tipoff. i'm going on holiday on sunday and yes, had picked it out -- in somewhat optimistic spirit admittedly, since my dd (2.10) will also be present... guess i'll leave it behind, being 21 wks

there should be a list somewhere of books to avoid when PG... brick lane has that awful scene with baby, and for some reason loads have people have raved about a memoir called Don't Go Down to the Dogs tonight (something like that) and then quickly said, 'but maybe not in your condition...'

i should prob do a search, there's bound to be an old thread on this very topic

I'm about a third of the way through. i bought it as my book to suggest to the book club i go to and then started it. It's okay , well more than ok, but not a lot going on. Bought it for the fab reviews it had more than anything else.

spook · 20/10/2004 18:17

Hello all you bookworms. Never posted in the book club before but I am an avid reader and just wanted to say, I've just finished A Special Relationship and really really enjoyed it. It took a while to get into but when she returns to find whats happened I thought it was fantastic. I can just see it being made into a film. Is The Pursuit of Happiness as good does anyone know? Thanks.

Thomcat · 20/10/2004 22:22

Hi Spook, don't know that book but a special relationship was good wasn't it. Not quite as good as I thought it would be but still good.

tamum · 20/10/2004 22:48

Hi spook, I liked The Pursuit of Happiness better actually- both very good

Ooh goody. That could be my airport buy tomorrow. I love buying books before a holiday. Part of the fun I think. Thanks for your responses!
