Easy lighthearted books where the main female character doesn't end up in a relationship!

I'm going through a really tough time at the moment and I want some easy reads.

I hesitate to use the phrase "chick lit" as I don't like it, but that's the sort of easy and lighthearted read I mean. However, I'd quite like to read some books where the main female character doesn't end up with a man and therefore all her problems are solved. It would be nice to read books where, for example, she leaves a bad relationship or a bad job, and she finds fulfilment being single or going traveling or something.

Has anyone any recommendations please?

Try Deanna Raybourn’s Veronica Speedwell books. They’re historical mysteries featuring a very determined lady naturalist. Her partner is an explorer. They are close friends, reek of URST, but five books in have managed to resist the conventional. They are lots of fun.

There are two books by Monica Dickens -One Pair of Hands, and One Pair of Feet, in which she rejects life as a debutante for becoming first a cook-housekeeper and then a nurse. They are mostly light and funny with some touching moments, and not at all romantic.

Great - thanks for the recommendations

It's a bit 'yummy mummy', but I rather liked My Life on a Plate by India Knight (haven't enjoyed any of her others). It's definitely an anti-romance novel Grin
