it might be inferior, but my DD (9) loves TB, so let her read it i say. I loved Enid Blyton (Twins at St Clares/Malory Towers/Naughtiest girl etc etc) at that age. Have seen the "good mothers don't allow their kids to read Enid Blyton" thread, but I still managed to get a degree and a good job, and still love the books and have bought for DD. I think we can be too PC for our (our our kids') own good these days.

FilchFistsFlitwick · 23/07/2007 23:00

Tracey Beaker has crap hair too.

Clarice Bean has nice frocks and uses the word 'nitwit'. And her brother Kurt is way cool and likes Nirvana (have you seen the poster on his bedroom wall?). Clarice is Class!

pointydog · 23/07/2007 23:03

dd1 likes tracy beaker

ahundredtimeturners · 23/07/2007 23:14

DS1 likes TB (poofter though, as we know) but I think it's all terribly upsetting. Though all that rather passes over his head I think, he just thinks she's great and lippy and has attitoode.

'But she's like that because she doesn't have any parents and she lives in a children's home ds1. It's all too too sad.'
'Uh?'

coddy · 24/07/2007 08:19

ok. Just asked dd2, just out of bed, why she likes TB books (she likes all JW)

'they are interesting and adventurous and she knows her characters and seems to know some of the feelings and problems that childrn have'

yes but Clarice Bean is American.

My girls have enjoyed both in their time, but Clarice Bean is definitely seen as babyish now. Personally I don't like Tracy Beaker as it's full of moaning and rudeness, but I don't stop them watching/reading it, and they recently enjoyed Tracy Beaker at the theatre.

NadineBaggott · 24/07/2007 08:54

gosh how old is dd2 pointy?

har

she's 8. I did think 'oh that looks pompous when it's written down' but it didn't sound it when she said it. honest!

ahundredtimes · 24/07/2007 09:12

OK this is DS1's critical assessment: 'Because they're very well written and they have good stories and it's very touching and stuff.'

Blandmum · 24/07/2007 09:12

Really don't enjoy her books at all.

dd went through a phase of liking them, and wanted me to read them too her. I found them to bloody miserable for words, sort of Angela's Ashes for kiddies.

If I wanted to be that miserable, I'd go sit on a spike and live in the shed.

In the end I told her that I wouldn't read them, and if she was that interested she'd have to read them to helpself

pointydog · 24/07/2007 09:15

oo well written
