I just finished reading this book and wanted to recommend it for anyone who enjoys mysteries set in different cultural settings.
The story is set in the 19th century Istanbul, then part of the Ottoman Empire, and is told through the eyes of Yashim, a eunuch. Several murders point to a conspiracy by the recently annihilated Janissaries. The story takes us through the lives of the harem girls, market vendors, bookkeepers, kocek dancers, eunuchs, and the intricate politics of the period.
