Well dh really - looking for gift ideas. He likes contemporary novels - William Boyd, Ian McEwan, Sebastien Faulks. Any ideas for others he would like? Thanks

I seem to recommending this slot lately, but try Little by Edmund Carey.

I thought the subject matter wasn't really my thing, buy was completely gripped by the writing style. Mainly recommending because you say he likes Ian McEwan. So do I, and the writing style reminded me of him a bit. Also the cover and illustrations are beautiful so it's good as a gift.

Otherwise, would something like 'A Little Life' appeal?

Jonathan Coe

Might also try Julian Barnes, Dave Eggers, Linda Grant, someone I know who likes the novelists you mentioned also enjoys these authors' books.

John Boyne might be a good choice.

How about surprising him with a novel by a FEMALE author?
