I hve just finished it I thought the end was a little bit disapointing at it left me wanting to read what hapened to Harry next what job he did who ran Hogwarts etc

Do you think there will be a spin off

Debbiethemum · 22/07/2007 17:40

I've finished as well. Was a very good book and I managed to not read the last chapter till I got to the end.
But I wanted to know more about what Harry did with himself afterwards.

filchthemildmanneredjanitor · 22/07/2007 17:41

no.

i can't see her doing anything else tbh.

she could do hogwrts; the next generation!

gary lodman confirmed as being way too old to play sirius! should have only been 37 in the book! fancy that they were only 21 when they had him!

i did think that voldermort must have been after the potters because they had the cloak-which was one of the hallows. but apparently not!

LazyLineLegilimens · 22/07/2007 17:42

I have finished it!

Thought that the epilogue was weak compared to the rest of the book. Was surprised overall that it had so much action and seemed well thought out when in the other books a lot of time went past with nothing happening at all.

I knew that the patronus was Snape's. Seemed a bit sad that Harry didn't really give Hedwig a second though, especially after he had blasted her into oblivion!

The saddest deaths were Mad-Eye and Dobby I thought. Was surprised that both Tonks and Remus kicked it and was gutted that Snape had to die and in such a low key way.

LazyLineLegilimens · 22/07/2007 17:43

I very much felt that the epilogue being so far into the future was her way of saying "this is it, it's over". 5 years later would have left room for more Potter.

TransfiguratingLily · 22/07/2007 18:11

I loved it. I am wrecked now though because I read half the night to get peace then ignored children/housework and everything is in chaos.

I liked the way he talked things through with Dd at the end...like the good old days. Was great that Neville chopped the snakes head off!

Really glad they did survive.

I always said Harry was a horcrux so felt quite smug about that

I'm sure I could find criticisms but choose not to and just love it for what it is. It was a great read and captured my imagination and I'm sad to have to re-enter muggle world now

LazyLineLegilimens · 22/07/2007 18:16

I predicted a twinny death!

I was sure that Harry was not a Horcrux though. ALthough I thought it was because Voldy wouldn't be trying to kill him if he knew. So I was kind of right as he was an accidental horcrux

filchthemildmanneredjanitor · 22/07/2007 18:55

i was sure harry asn't a horcrux too! so sure!! and how wrong i was!

wolveschick · 22/07/2007 19:00

Cried my eyes out at the end, because it was the final book and the bit about Albus Severus did me in! I didnt find the end anti climatic at all-I think it provided a contrast to the bloodbath and tension beforehand Harry defeating Voldemort as the pinnacle of his life which is tied in with his time at Hogwarts.

Smugly presicted who married who many many books ago (not THAT difficult I know) and the Snape stuff. Problem is I now want to re-read it all.

LOVED IT, LOVED IT. Thank you JK Rowling.

rosmerta · 22/07/2007 19:04

I can't remember what I predicted now, I know that I didn't think Harry was a horcrux and that Snape would prove himself good!

I really enjoyed it, though had to tell myself to get a grip after Dobby died! I had kind of wished the epilogue had been longer but then it could've turned into a whole new book!

I loved Molly at the end, throwing off her housewifely appearance and also Neville!

filchthemildmanneredjanitor · 22/07/2007 19:05

loved that snape was good-had predicted that all along. so sad the way he had loved lily!

one of the clues beforehand was that someone would do magic late in life-still don';t know who that was!

rosmerta · 22/07/2007 19:06

I said that about the magic late in life, wasn't sure if I'd missed it because I'd read it so quickly!

Quite sad to see how jealous Petunia actually was of Lily

filchthemildmanneredjanitor · 22/07/2007 19:10

very interesting to see that petunia was actually desperate to be a witch though.
sad.

Rosylily · 22/07/2007 19:11

Yeah, Petunias jealousy just explained how she could have been so mean to Harry.

Hmm forgot about the magic late in life thing, was it a red herring?

rosmerta · 22/07/2007 19:12

I wondered if it got cut in the final editing? So she mentioned it but then it was taken out?

filchthemildmanneredjanitor · 22/07/2007 19:13

and have just realised that when dumbledore sent the howler to petunia saying 'remember your last' he was referring to the letter she sent him asking to be allowed to go to hogwarts.

Yes had forgotten about the whole magic later in life thing.

What happened to that?

katiebell100 · 22/07/2007 21:05

Think the magic in later life was a red herring, as she also said that Harry wasn't a horcrux and that was a lie.

I knew it was going to be Moody who died when I saw the title of the chapter, but it was Dobby's death the really got me, especially when Harry dug the grave himself.

LaDiDudleyDursley · 22/07/2007 23:28

I've finished too.

I was pleased that the house-elves played such an important part in the story.

I felt a bit disappointed in the way Snape died, I wanted it to be clear to Harry and Voldemort that Snape was really a goodie before he was killed.

Sad for little Lupin that both his parents were killed!

Pleased that Percy came back into the Weasley fold and didn't become a Death Eater.

Liked Dudley's change of heart towards Harry.

Still can't work out who did magic late in life???

Saw OOP film this afternoon, it was good but I hate the way the have to cut soooo much out.l

AraFanellaFigg · 23/07/2007 07:30

Finished it last night - I thought it was brilliant. What a great way to end it - I'd been thinking all the way through it was weird not knowing what was going on at the school - and then to have the final massive showdown in the entrance hall....

I did think the final chapter was a bit cheesy, but loved it all the same. The bit with Albus Severus, and Harry saying snape was the bravest man he knew - I thought that was lovely.

Very nicely tied up I thought. I wish Umbridge had got more of a comeuppance though..can console myself with the thought that she was probably demoted or sacked by Kingsley Shacklebolt!!

Nymphadora · 23/07/2007 09:08

*

I cried at Dobby and Mad-eye

Mad eye mainly cos it was such a shock in the opening to the book.Dobby over the grave and the others cam so close together that Ididn't really have chance to cry.
