How to start a book club?

I really, REALLY want to join a book club, and I've been looking for one in my local area for the past couple of years, to no avail. I've asked at my local library, and the only one they have there is for Chinese speakers which is no good for me.
I have no mates that read. I'm the only bookish one!
How does one start a club? Any hints would be appreciated!

I started one on our street by creating a wee flyer with my details and then bribed DS and his pal to put them through letter boxes. Got 7 members initially and we're still going strong 5 years down the line.

I just google book clubs+my home town and it led me to meetup. Maybe try that?

I started one, and put it on the Next Door local site. We use the library for our books. We have to pay a fee, but still cheaper and easier than trying to get hold of them in time via Amazon or wherever.

Someone sent round an email where I used to work to ask if anyone was interested in starting a book club. We ended up with 5 or 6 people from work and some brought friends from outside work who wanted to join, so I think there were 9 of us. Still going strong 12 years later with a few changes in membership over the years.

Have you tried your local WI? You might enjoy getting involved plus many have book groups, the one I belong to has a wide range of ages & interests & we have two book clubs.

Ours is very small and consisted of 2 neighbours and a daughter and a few friends. I met one at Slimming World and we are all now mates. We decided early on not to include men and we all have various interests so keeps the reading interesting.

One friend set up a book club via Meetup, but I think there are fees involved.

Otherwise, I've seen someone in our local suburb set up a book club in conjunction with the new trendy wine bar. They're happy to promote as its gets people in mid week, and you could then flyer the local area with some posters.
