Wakenhyrst by Michelle Paver

I haven't seen this mentioned here yet, have others read it too?

It's by Michelle Paver, author of Dark Matter and Thin Air, though Wakenhyrst is set in England, just before WW1 and concerns demons.

It's very much a "gothic horror" though I wouldn't say it's particularly scary (unless I don't scare easily?). It provides more a sense of creeping dread, which I thoroughly enjoyed!

It's on my list - waiting for it to come down on Kindle. Although must admit I didn't love either of her two ghost stories, although their settings/time periods ought to have meant that they were right up my street.

I just finished this - huge fan of Dark Matter & Thin Air.

I really enjoyed it, agree that it's less scary than the above but is nicely creepy in a gothic way. I always want another when I finish one of her spooky books.
