Dd is absolutely loving Five Dolls in a House by Helen Clare. She loved the stories when she was younger but has now rediscovered them and is doing up her dolls house to replicate the story She really wants to write to Helen Clare but I think she might well be dead by now. I can't find much about her at all on Google, just that her real name was something else (Pauline, I think, can't remember). Does anyone know any more about her, please? I have ordered another book in the series from Abe but they are generally pretty expensive, (and I want the Cecil Leslie illustrations!) so I guess the books must still have some popularity. Any more information gratefully received

No info but loved those books, can't wait until DD gets old enough to read them. Poor love has also got a stack of Amelia Jane, Millie Molly Mandy, Elizabeth Goodge and Rumour (can't spell?)Godden waiting.

Your DD might like Rumour Godden too-that one about 2 Japanese dolls and there was another book about a doll who lived in a dolls house, can't remember title.

I'm looking for that Elizabeth Goudge book about a girl who found a cottage in a wood. Unfortunately can't remember that title either.

Hello MilaMae, thanks for responding! You are obviously a woman after my own heart. She has read Miss Happiness and Miss Flower, thank you, although again I might reintroduce it for reading on her own. I don't remember the Elizabeth Goudge either I'm afraid, but I bet someone on here will. I loved her book about the little white horse

The Elizabeth Goudge book is Henrietta's House. It was one of my favourite books as a child.

Oooh ladies

Resurrecting this ancient thread as I found it on a google search for more books from Helen Clare!

DD found Five Dolls in a House at my mum's house a week ago and has already read it 3 times! I remembered it so well that I know I must have read it many times too.

But I knew there were other stories as I remembered one that wasn't in there.

Have searched for them and can't find any for less than about £15 .

There seem to be at least four others - yes why doesn't someone reprint them? They are so fab!
