singingmum, I nearly said to you yesterday 'where's your HP name woman?', then thought that might be a bit rude

Did I mention I thought the article was codswallop???

I think the books are very funny, I love subtle humour. DD is hilarious even in the serious situations. I think it's agreat pity that he wont be in the next one, and hope the book is not poorer for it

singingsortinghatmum · 19/07/2007 13:07

Lol
Actually just went to click to see what this one post was that came up on a thread I'd been on and realised it was ...ME..
Felt v.stupid

persephonesnape · 19/07/2007 14:06

predictions for teaching staff anyone? mcgonnagle will need a new potions master/mistress and a DADA professor. anyone we've seen before or new characters?

or do we think there won't be much actually set in hogwarts?

AnnieOleHouseElf · 19/07/2007 14:12

MrsWeasley, I is making you coffee and fixing your wonky table, so you is not needing to use new Harry Potter book.

I is disappointed to see Neville doing Dobby's bit of finding the room of requirement, and he is not warning Harry Potter of Umbridge coming. But Dobby was still paid, so he bought me a butterbeer.

kneazlechick · 19/07/2007 14:32

I don't know about new teachers, but surely Slughorn would be staying on as potions professor? That is if there is anything about the school in it. If Harry, Ron and Hermione aren't at the school then there may not be much about it in this story.

I agree that the tone has changed and that it is to do with the characters getting older and the situation getting darker, not as a result of outside influences. I also agree that there is a lot of humour in the books - tho some of it is rather subtle.

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 19/07/2007 14:41

Yes I agree that DD is very funny. The language he uses and things like the squashy armchair he produces as the MoM hearing always make me laugh.
I take it that some of you have decided not to read the New York Times' review in case it spoils things?

kneazlechick · 19/07/2007 14:54

I was unsure about reading it but I'm glad I did. It didn't give anything away per se. It just gave more hints. I'm a bit confused tho because it reads as tho the reviewer has read the book but I didn't think there were any copies available until Saturday.

rosmerta · 19/07/2007 14:54

I haven't read the review yet, haven't seen the link to it but also not sure whether to or not...

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 19/07/2007 15:01

Yes I thought it didn't give much away and gave some interesting hints. It says that the reviewer bought a copy at a store in NY. I did read that only the fact that they could be banned from selling future HP books stopped the stores from selling early in the past and that, as there's no incentive now this is the last book, there would probably be a raft of places selling early, but this is the first one I've heard of so far. Wish there was one in Canary Wharf though as I'd head straight down there.

kneazlechick · 19/07/2007 15:06

here is the link to the review for anyone who wants to read it.

We're running out of steam a bit on the old theorising aren't we?

With my parents staying I'm not finding as much time to read HBP as I thought. They've only just arrived at Hogwarts so Gawd knows if I'll get through it before 7.30 Saturday morning (all but decided against midnight purchase). I had to skip big chunks of OOTP to get it finished earlier in the week, I may have to do the same with HBP. More of it is important though, I think.

Almost there.
By this time saturday most of us will be well into the book.I know I have def warned dc's that they can do housework and food as will be in book
My dp has told them that although I will be in the house on the sofa in body I will be with HP in mind so not to disturb mummy to much

Goodness me he's wonderful
Although he knows how grouchy I get when reading a new book if interupted so he could have alterior motive here.

expatinscotland · 19/07/2007 16:17

Well, first thing I'll do once I get my copy is read the end to find out who dies.

Then I'll ring my sister abroad who can't get hers for another few hours and let her know how dies, cuz she is jonesing to know!

Can't wait!

persephonesnape · 19/07/2007 16:30

i actually got teary reading the review - I've got zero chance of being kleenex-free.

I used to be hard as nails before having children.

singingsortinghatmum · 19/07/2007 16:32

Will go threw so many tissues that have decided to just have large pack of toilet rolls by side of sofa.My dc's and dp are going to keep me supplied with drinks as will be to busy to make them.Is that lazy or am i totally obsessed

kneazlechick · 19/07/2007 18:05

Dh has pursuaded me to go into town first thing as we do have lots of jobs, and our post doesn't normally arrive until 10ish so we could be virtually back by then. But now ... we've agreed to pick up our new puppy on the way home!!! Dead excited but the chances of me getting any time to read are getting slimmer by the second!!!!

whompingwillowinthedewmeadow · 19/07/2007 18:41

hi all!! Phew!! Made it back in time to obsess about HP before Saturday - this baby defintiely has my priorities in teh right order!!

Although I was tempted by Clare Bellatrix, finally decided on Clare Rachel.

kneazlechick · 19/07/2007 19:04

Hi whomping And huge congratulations. I suppose Clare Rachel is pretty, not magical enough tho

At least you'll have something to read during the night feeds. Any theories for us? We've sort of run out. Also, have you checked out the fake Deathly Hallows thread? I'll be so disappointed when I read the real thing if it doesn't sound like ours!

MrsWho · 19/07/2007 19:28

Hiya just marking this thread for now as I have my net back

Will just go and get changed and then come back to you !

rosmerta · 19/07/2007 19:52

Welcome back MrsWho and Whomping (congratulations on miniwhomping as well)

I read the review & now I'm even more impatient! Dh has arranged to take ds to mil so will have the day to myself. Now, banking on book turning up by 10am, I'll probably be finished between 3 & 4pm!

rosmerta · 19/07/2007 20:14

I also managed to finish my book club book so I'm hoping to read HBP before Saturday!

Nymphadora · 19/07/2007 20:18

Right am changed now!

Only have a babysitter til 10pm so can't go out for the book myself SO should I wait for the am and my Amazon delivery OR persuade new bf to go to Tesco and buy me one and deliver it (and dd1 can have myAmazon one)?
