Hmmm DG will have to see it, but know what you mean.
He is just wrong.
I could overlook the change in appearance if he played him properly.

rosmerta · 16/07/2007 09:51

Exactly DG, he's just got it all wrong!

DumbledoresGirl · 16/07/2007 09:52

Argh, some errors in my last post. That is because I am getting so worked up thinking about how Gambon is destroying the image of Dumbledore!

I had better leave the pc and go and do something therapeutic!

MrsWeasley · 16/07/2007 09:54

DG I dont like the way he moves.
I know it sounds odd but I always go the impression that DD glides but now he looks too much like a tubby man wearing a dress!
When he is moving around his desk you can see his shape and that spoils it!

DumbledoresGirl · 16/07/2007 09:54

He does try and get it right at the end of the film btw. There is a scene where he speaks more gently to Harry. (But not the great scene that there is in the book, alas ) Gambon needs to work on that side of the character if he is to continue playing him (dear God! what will the next film be like if Gambon plays Dumbledore as D has such a huge role in the next book?)

DumbledoresGirl · 16/07/2007 09:56

Oh yes, I don't like his robes either. Now that is presumably not Gambon's fault, more the costume departments. I think D should be dressed a bit more eccentrically. There is reference to him wearing robes with stars and suchlike on them, and wearing purple, etc. D's robes in the films look like some dirty old sheet.

DumbledoresGirl · 16/07/2007 09:57

Ok............I'm going..................

MrsWeasley · 16/07/2007 10:00

I should go to. garage needs sorting .....not

BandofMuggles · 16/07/2007 10:00

Lol at tubby man in a dress. Harris's in the first ones were spot on i thought.

MrsWeasley · 16/07/2007 10:05

filchthemildmanneredjanitor · 16/07/2007 10:06

this even

BandofMuggles · 16/07/2007 10:09

Is so sad that he died anyway, but to die in middle of HP films is tragic. I loved him as DD.

He was also great in Gladiator. It's his voice, so calming. Wonder if he ever did an audio book.

shinyhappytonks · 16/07/2007 10:09

Yippee - I have just checked Amazon and they say that my book has been dispatched

Delivery date is the 21st so i presume it will sit somewhere, but hey my book is coming !!!!!!!

As for the chappie who plays DD i find him too intense and almost angry. The books tend to describe him almost ethereal with a steely spine Richard Harris was spot on and would love to have seen him continue the role

MrsWeasley · 16/07/2007 10:11

See DD is all colourful robes, White head and beard and a kindly face.

2nd DD is grey and harsh looking

BandofMuggles · 16/07/2007 10:11

He would have continued to be great I am sure.
Mind he was fairly old wasn't he??

persephonesnape · 16/07/2007 10:14

please don't let anyone else die before the films end. I'm so used to everyone as everyone now.

BandofMuggles · 16/07/2007 10:15

PSnape, I'm sure they'll be glad you want them to live for that reason
But agree tho.

persephonesnape · 16/07/2007 10:19

that is the only reason of course. although gary Oldman may ( or may not! ) be expendable now!

wouldn't it be terrible if amazon had cocked it up and their books were delivered a day early!?

BandofMuggles · 16/07/2007 10:20

I really hope I don't run into a spoiler.
Like bookshop lurkers. Hopefully if I get there early enough they wont have had time to read enough to spoil it.

shinyhappytonks · 16/07/2007 10:26

My postie doesn't deliver 'till 1pm so heavens only knows how i will avoid spoilers. My dh has threatened to lock me in a room until the book arrives and throw food intermittently thereafter

Its insane how much i am looking forward to this book !

BandofMuggles · 16/07/2007 10:28

Wish my DH would offer to do that

That would be great. I am looking forward to it so much, more cos of this thread I think too. Has really made me think about it.

MrsWeasley · 16/07/2007 10:30

WOW what a wonderful DH. I soooooo wish mine would even think of that!

shinyhappytonks · 16/07/2007 10:36

He IS a real sweetie, but he also knows that if i don't get to read my book - his life could be hell

Plus my beloved ds(4)is a real pickle when mummy wants to do anything that isn't him related and will promptly sit on my lap and ask for a big hug cunning little so and so !

BandofMuggles · 16/07/2007 10:43

No wonder you're so shiny and happy.

DD1 is cunning like that
