I think the best starting school book is the Charlie and Lola one "I am absolutely too small for school" I don't do the wary of strangers thing, so I can't help you there, sorry.

I think there is a Little Princess book on starting school about making friends - called "I want a friend" - that's quite nice. I second the Charlie and Lola one, it's lovely.

Someone mentioned on earlier thread that "Come on Daisy" was a good one for encouraging them not to wander off and I agree - might be a softer way into the whole stranger thing.

Thanks, I had forgotten the Charlie and Lola one and I'll look at the Daisy one.

Any other suggestions anyone?

Off To School by Ann Schweninger is a lovely book about first the day at school including a child who cries and a hero who gets a bit anxious on arrival....but its all sorted by breaktime....those two charaters really seemed to be ones my dd identified with

and I haven't read it but isn't there a Maisy one?
