Hi all,

Hoping someone can help as dd can't remember the name of a book she has started at school. It's not often she finds one she enjoys, so I have said that we can have a look for it at Waterstones over the weekend. Unfortunately after many attempts at Googling it, I am none the wiser! Please help!

The story (up to Chpt 2) is about a family whose home was bombed in WW2. The family died but can't find one of the adults - so far the purpose of the book seems to be to find them. As time goes on new families live in the new re-built house, some of whom can see ghosts and leave and some who can't. In a field the family find a ghost girl laying behind a bush soaking wet. She had drowned and is carrying a sponge bag. Inside the sponge bag is a lid with Queen Victoria on the top.

That's as far as she got!

If anyone can help I would be so grateful - it's been a struggle to get her to read more than a page in recent months so am keen to encourage her now she has found an author she gets on with! TIA!

The book title apparently has 'Dani' as the first word and 'ghosts' as the last word...

Don't suppose she can remember the name of the family or any other characters?

She said one was called Eric and there was an aunt.

I just showed her the list but none of those books was right.

She said the cover had a flat Frankenstein with a snake on it's wrist Confused

Thanks for this guys!

Can't you just ask the school?

LonelyandTiredandLow · 02/03/2019 08:30

I can on Monday - was just hoping to get it over the weekend.
I've looked through The Book People and nothing. Will go into Waterstones and see if they have any idea. Thanks all.

I think it's dial a Ghost By Eva Ibbotson OP.

The cover she described is the second addition in the link

You were completely right!
Dd is dyslexic and had read Dial as Dani Grin
I got it for her yesterday after school as she wrote it down in the day. Thank you so much!

Yay!

My son read this one so the story sounded familiar.

I hope she enjoys the rest of the story Smile
