and LITTLE WOMEN

dejags · 10/07/2007 12:48

Expat - I had no expectations when I picked it up. One of my favourites - although I am not sure I'll reread it, like I do the Power of One!

LittleBoot · 10/07/2007 12:58

oh I know, Persuasion by Jane Austen

That made me bawl. The bit at the end where she says she doesn't claim women love more than men, just that they love when all hope is gone.

After you were gone

yogimum · 21/07/2007 09:21

bridges of madison county, Read it years ago but would love to read it again.

Guitargirl · 21/07/2007 09:34

Lovely Bones for me too, cried whilst read it on the bus on the way to work and noticed people trying to look to see what I was reading.

An Equal Music made me sob - but that had a lot to do with what was going on in my life at that time.

bagsundereyes - The Unbearable Lightness of Being made me so angry I had to throw the book out of the window...

zookeeper · 21/07/2007 09:38

Angela' Ashes- very depressing

emmamaw · 21/07/2007 09:41

The Time Traveller's Wife had me really weeping - I used to read it in the bath and get out four hours later stone cold and crying my eyes out!

Lovely Bones is sad, but I never finished it because I found it too damn depressing!

Cammelia · 21/07/2007 09:43

yep, TTW and also that one by Julie Myerson where a girl aged about 9 who has just started to become "difficult" dies, that was heartbreaking

AuntJetPetunia · 21/07/2007 09:46

Angela's Ashes - yes, bucketfuls.

Children's book that gets me the most: "Guess How Much I Love You". The last page has me weeping like an idiot EVERY single time!

sleepfinder · 09/08/2007 18:51

Engleby by Sebastian Faulks.
Charlotte Gray by Sebastian Faulks
Bastard out of Carolina by June Allyson

and I think also The Lovely Bones as someone has already mentioned...

(all child related passages)

Jojay · 09/08/2007 18:53

Ok. I'm really shallow I know, but the bit when Sailor dies, in Jilly Coopers' 'Riders' gets me every time!!!

Spink · 09/08/2007 19:07

ok, can we have books that have made you belly laugh now??
I've just ordered some of the ones people have talked about, and I need to order some antidotes or I will be a wet pool of cryingness

sleepfinder · 09/08/2007 19:09

Talk of the Town by Ardal O'Hanlon (yes, the guy from Father Ted). Wept with laughter, through the whole first half of it.
