Can anyone recommend a book that covers the Victorian era and spiritualism? I’m struggling to find one.

Yes the main book is Alex Owen's The Darkened Room, there are more specific books such as ones about the Fox sisters Talking to the Dead by Barbara Weisberg, and then more commercial ones such as Antonio Melechi's Servants of the Supernatural, hope that helps.

Sarah Waters 'Affinity'. Also AS Byatt wrote one book on that subject, it it wasn't one of her best IIRC.

Arthur and George by Julian Barnes is really good

Cover the mirrors by Faye L Booth is another one.

Hilary Mantel's 'Beyond Black' also worth a read.

I second:
Affinity - Sarah Waters
Arthur & George - Julian Barnes
Beyond Black - Hilary Mantel (but not sure if set in Victorian times - still worth reading without a doubt)

Hilary Mantel’s Beyond Black is contemporary— the ghost of Princess Diana makes a very satirical appearance — but utterly brilliant, and very dark.
