Dubious about DD's choices from the book fair - Help??

She's 9 and a very good reader but has come home with a list which I think are a bit adult - any one know anything about these books??

I Coriander - Sally Gardner
Vampairates - Justin Samper
Victory - Susan Coper
Spiderwick - Tony Diterlizzi (??at DD's spelling)
The King Arthur Trilogy - Rosemary Sutcliffe

What age were your children when they read these books??

If she wants to read them, then don't stop her! I loved reading like that at her age and was on Agatha Christie's by the time I was 11; I can't vouch for those books individually but can't see there would be much wrong with them. If you are worried read some book reviews on line. They are children's authors so should be ok IMO.
I love Susan Cooper and think my dd2 read one of hers at 10

i read I Coriander to dd2 last summer when she was 9. it was ok although neither of us was particularly gripped by it.

DD1 is nine and has read and loved I Coriander. She would probably consider Spiderwick too young for her. No idea about Vampirates but the others we all have on our shelves and I would have no objection to her reading them - she is reading Anne Fine's The Tulip Touch at the moment.

spiderwick is a series of chronicles,so make sure she gets number! ds1 age 8 loves them, and so do my year 5's!!

Wisteria - it's more a case of which ones I buy rather than which ones are necessarily suitable

EG I'd rather not buy a book that is too young for her (but I'd get it out the library)

No - I haven't read any of them I got a Rosemary Sutcliffe out the library & she wouldn't read it - so I'm a bit wary of buying stuff she won't read

So I'm after recommendations really - what (if any) of them are really good

Well of course if you are buying full-price - my mind is running along the lines of secondhand bookstalls you see because I am running one at the school fair this weekend - we charge 20p for children's books.

No - it's that tasteful magazine/book fair when they con parent's into buying new books & make a small amount of money for the school

DD9 and good reader too - exactly what DD would have chosen and she does not seemed scarred by any of them

You're lucky ! I had the opposite problem last year - dd then 8, who is a good reader, wanted to buy a book which was far too young for her - just because it came with a couple of stretchy spiders on the front . We managed to delay her choice until the school open evening where we were able to look at the books ourselves and confirm our suspicions. We eventually managed to persuade her to choose another !
