Give a book to a disadvantaged child for Christmas

BookTrust the national organisation that works to promote reading for children and support children's books, is running a scheme for Christmas, donate ten pounds and it will be used to buy a book as a Christmas gift for a child in care or otherwise in need.

Also if you live need a branch of Blackwell's many run a 'giving tree' at Christmas, you go into a branch and pay £10 and it is used to buy a book for children, the Oxford branch this year is buying books for children/families in hospice care.

I think both are really great schemes. BookTrust runs a letterbox scheme throughout the year posting out books to children in care who may never have received a parcel before ever.

Thanks for that - I had seen something about the Booktrust scheme in passing somewhere but forgot what it was called.

I've done the Blackwell's one a few times but they seem to have stopped doing the online version, the BookTrust one seems good and it supports literacy and gives presents to children who get very little at Christmas so has to be worth supporting.

Great idea. Just donated.

That's brilliant. On the other areas of MN recently the idea of the 'season of good will' seems to be a bit lacking! So liked being able to post about something nice for a change; and it sounds as if the scheme works really well.
