There's a big 2-4-1 on & I need to spend credits

Anything good in the big lot they have on sale?

What sort of things do you usually like? I enjoyed the reading of Snowcrash if you're a sci-fi fan.

Chickpearocker · 03/12/2018 21:19

Not relevant to this but you need to listen to west cork if you haven’t already!

RustyBear · 03/12/2018 21:25

If you like history, I’ve enjoyed both Alison Weir’s book on Henry VIII’s wives and Ian Mortimer’s Time Traveller’s guide to Medieval England.

I’m going to get Gerald Durrell’s Birds, Beasts and Relatives for one of mine, not sure about the second, possibly David Starkey’s Monarchy or Tim Clayton’s Waterloo.

Ooh just having a look. I enjoyed the truth about the Harry quebert affair on audible. Also enjoyed Liane Moriarty's 'what Alice forgot' although I read that one rather than listened.

I like Lianne Moriarty & love west cork - am obsessed with the accent, (listen to Louise O'Neill's 'asking for it'. Not a big fan of history 😬

Will look up Snowcrash ta.

Loved the heart's invisible furies, Eleanor & Park, Sarah Waters, Amy Tan, Kate Atkinson, Murakami....

I got Vanity Fair, and Laura Barnett’s The Versions Of Us which is a sliding doors type story.

ScribblyGum · 04/12/2018 07:21

The edition of Vanity Fair in the sale is excellent. Chessie you are in for a treat.
Audiobooks in the sale I can recommend are:
Days Without End by Sebastian Barry, The Heart Goes Last by Margaret Atwood and North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell (narrated by Juliet Stevenson, oh she does such a great job),

Wellhellothere101 · 04/12/2018 07:32

My two absolute favorites on Audible are The Heart's Invisible Furies (but I see you've listened to that) and Americanah. The accents in both are amazing.
Also good value for money is The Stand by Stephen King as it's a fab read and lasts about 40 hours!

tobee · 04/12/2018 16:48

Loved Juliet Stephenson's narration of The Paying Guests.

My absolute favourite is Anna Massey reading Rebecca. Listened while doing Christmas lunch one year. Did the clearing up too to carry on listening lol

Great suggestions thanks / I've read or listened to most of these with a couple in my purchased to be heard pile, but will purchase most that I haven't got - Vanity Fair & North & South & couple of others 😁
