Thinking of getting ds(14, 15 in February) a first biography suitable for a teen for xmax. Any recommendations, he had only read fiction until now.

Some possible themes - Scottish, football (maybe manager or referee), ww2, popular TV personality. Or whatever a teenager might enjoy.

You could look at Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, true story from the war.

My DS also enjoyed Ben Macintyre's SAS: Rogue Hero's, which is about how they started and operated during the war. Amazing bravery and some really exciting accounts, and lots of them were Scottish!

Sorry, that should obviously be Heroes not Hero's

I've not read it, but I know a lot of people on the 50 books thread really rate An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth by Chris Hadfield. It looks excellent - am thinking to get a copy for 16 y/o dd.

Watching with interest-although I'm 40 I've only recently read my first biography - Leah Remini's troublemaker. It was great. Swearing but a great insight into Scientology

Roald Dahl's - Boy (childhood) and Going Solo (wartime). Especially if they enjoyed his books when younger as can see where a lot of the stories came from.

The Chris hadfield book has a religious element to it which put me off.

A Street Cat Named Bob by James Bowen. It's not your typical biography for a teen but might be worth considering? Very inspiring and easy to read! I'd suggest checking out the reviews beforehand as you might feel it's not suited to your DS. Hope your family have a wonderful Christmas!
