In reply to Rosmerta's question I have to say that POA is my absolute favorite and I thing OoTP is my least so far but as for ranking the others...impossible!
I still think that Harry is not a horcrux either by accident or by design! I would think it was a complicated piece of magic which would not be easy to perform so doubt it would be done by accident - and there is no way V would keep trying to kill Harry if he knew he was a horcrux.
I wondered about the felix potion too but didn't the DA use the last of it up at the end of HBP? Perhaps Slughorn could make some more!
Although I think he is an incredibly complex character I still think Snape is essentially on the side of good. Apparently JKR has said there is "an important kind of redemtive pattern to Snape" - hmmm... I definitely think he will be quite important in the Deathly Hallows. I also think that Wormtail will help swing the 'final fight' in some way as he owes Harry a 'life-debt'. Am sure something like that would not have been added in unless it was significant. It doesn't appear that JKR puts anything in that is not important in some way or another!

MrsWeasley · 04/07/2007 10:56

oh yes of course I keep forgetting about wormtail!

I read somewhere that sirius was only ever planned to be in it for a short stint so maybe he has ....g...g...g gone forever

AnnieAlcoholLeft · 04/07/2007 12:41

MrsWeasley, I hate to see you so sad, so I is bringing you a brandy.

MrsWeasley · 04/07/2007 12:43

aww thank you kind elf. How are you ? havent seen you around for a while but yet house work is done and clothes cleaned!

AnnieAlcoholLeft · 04/07/2007 12:45

I is very well thank you. I is meeting Winky in the Three Broomsticks for lunch so I may be a little late back. She still drinks a lot of butterbeer...

PhoenixSongbird · 04/07/2007 14:00

Hello you lot, I miss so much if I don't use the computer at home over the 4 days I'm not at work!!

Below is transcription of interview with JKR. Interesting!

ES: This is one of my burning questions since the third book - why did Voldemort offer Lily so many chances to live? Would he actually have let her live?

JKR: Mmhm.

ES: Why?

JKR: [silence] Can't tell you. But he did offer, you're absolutely right. Don't you want to ask me why James's death didn't protect Lily and Harry? There?s your answer, you've just answered your own question, because she could have lived and chose to die. James was going to be killed anyway. Do you see what I mean? I?m not saying James wasn't ready to; he died trying to protect his family but he was going to be murdered anyway. He had no - he wasn't given a choice, so he rushed into it in a kind of animal way, I think there are distinctions in courage. James was immensely brave. But the caliber of Lily's bravery was, I think in this instance, higher because she could have saved herself. Now any mother, any normal mother would have done what Lily did. So in that sense her courage too was of an animal quality but she was given time to choose. James wasn't. It's like an intruder entering your house, isn't it? You would instinctively rush them. But if in cold blood you were told, "Get out of the way," you know, what would you do? I mean, I don't think any mother would stand aside from their child. But does that answer it? She did very consciously lay down her life. She had a clear choice -

ES: And James didn't.

JKR: Did he clearly die to try and protect Harry specifically given a clear choice? No. It's a subtle distinction and there's slightly more to it than that but that's most of the answer.

PhoenixSongbird · 04/07/2007 14:05

Oh, and can I just say, I made the point about 'why didn't Lily have to die' aaaaaaages ago (on t'other thread possibly), and nobody picked up on it!

[flounce]

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 04/07/2007 14:08

Yes you did. That is interesting though - what is the more of it? Did V want something with Lily other than her death? Did he have plans for her?
Do love your new name btw.

persephonesnape · 04/07/2007 14:21

alalala. it's because James isn't Harrys birth-father!

how many times!?!! it's snape!

(not sure if i believe this myself anymore, but it's fun to keep going back to it..)

tigerschick · 04/07/2007 14:22

Wow that is complicated, and very specific. I'm now even more intrigued!!

Someone said that James may be a descendent of Gryffindor, I think. But I'm now wondering if Lily might have had some sort of connection of that nature. I said before that I'm not sure about her Muggle-birth. And we know that V likes to collect things and has a great deal of respect for the founders of Hogwarts. I wonder if this is what Harry is going to find out at Godric's Hollow ... Oooooh I'm going ot burst before it comes out!!!

BecklePhoenixBird · 04/07/2007 14:31

On the cover of the new book there is something that looks suspiciously like a house elf holding up a sword behind Harry. At first glance I thought it was Ron holding the swort but there is a creature with bat-like ears! And the sword appears to have a ruby on the hilt - Gryffindoor's sword???
enlarge it

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 04/07/2007 15:10

Definitely a house elf and definitely Gryffindor's sword. Do you think they're at Gringott's?

tigerschick · 04/07/2007 15:19

Don't know where they are but agree that it's definately an elf and Gryffindor's sword.

Strained my eyes trying to read the writing on the back and inside covers shown on that link. And it doesn't reveal anything Not that I really thought it would but still!

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 04/07/2007 15:22

Well I thought it might be as they're surrounded by gold.

PhoenixSongbird · 04/07/2007 15:27

Maybe James had to die for V to create a Horcrux, ie, he had no choice.

Also, how does DD know that Lily died to save Harry? Did Harry tell him that's what V had told him? Or did DD already know? I can't remember quite how the conversation in the hospital wing went at the end of book 1.

PhoenixSongbird · 04/07/2007 15:29

Yeah, Harry's never explored his vault has he? How big are they anyway? Maybe there's more than money hiding there!

tigerschick · 04/07/2007 15:33

Harry has been into his vault a couple of times. I'm not sure if it says how big they are, but it is possible that there are secret passages in them ... hmmm.

Of course, now that Sirius has left everything to Harry, he should have access to the Black family vault, surely. That might be a very interesting, if quite disgusting, place to visit.

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 04/07/2007 15:36

Yes the Black family vault must have some good stuff in it.

MrsWeasley · 04/07/2007 15:47

I think the elf is either Dobby (would die for harry!) or Kreacher!!!!

Oh Lily chose to die to save harry maybe Harry chooses to die to save everyone else

Back to the locket! Mung' didnt have it. It was put in the black bag during the clean up but kreacher may have taken it out!!

Sorry ignore that bit about harry because he ISNT GOING TO DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BecklePhoenixBird · 04/07/2007 15:59

I am beginning to wonder if someone else was at Godric's Hollow on the night V attacked there... Was it DD? Could that be why he had Jame's invisibility cloak? (although can't think for a minute he would let V murder if he was there to prevent it). Maybe it was Snape and he told all to DD?

BecklePhoenixBird · 04/07/2007 16:03

Have you seen the cover for the US version of the book? I know there is sky above but I do wonder if this is in the Veil Room in the Ministry??? IMO Harry looks to be in command here and V looks like he is trying to stop Harry and also a bit scared. No wands either...

tigerschick · 04/07/2007 16:25

Hmm, I wonder why they have a different cover for the American market? Very interesting picture tho.

Don't know about the invisibility cloak. Dd said that James left it with him for safe keeping. I think that, if Dd had collected it himself or been given it by someone else, he would have said so. (Incidentally, that is one of the most disappointing things about the films, the cloak is nothing like it is described in the books. It is supposed to fit inthe pocket of Harry's jeans but there is no way the one in the film could do that. It is supposed to be silvery but the one in the films is velvety)

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 04/07/2007 17:07

It looks like some kind of ampitheatre. Is it the Minstry or maybe the Great Hall at Hogwarts?

tigerschick · 04/07/2007 17:14

Oh - I noticed on the non-american cover that there is a picture that looks a lot like Hogwarts. But it said at the end of HBP that Harry wasn't going back there. May be a coincidence but it really looks like Hogwarts.

persephonesnape · 04/07/2007 17:27

Harry would go back if the school was under attack though - although i don't really know if V would full out go for Hogwarts, as i think he loved his time there..
