rosmerta · 02/07/2007 21:00

persephonesnape · 02/07/2007 21:14

persephonesnape · 02/07/2007 21:16

can we fill this thread by July 12th btw? then we can get a shiny new one for OOTP reviews etc and another shiny new one for Deathly hallows.

MrsWeasley · 02/07/2007 21:38

When you read about the kneazle it makes it all so clear about why crookshanks kept attacking scabbers

BandofMuggles · 03/07/2007 08:38

I reckon we can give it a go snape. Or should I say professor

Kneazle is interesting. Thanks for the link. It does explain a lot.
I wonder if crookshanks is helpful in the next one

lilibetpotter · 03/07/2007 09:23

Wonder if JKR is apprehensive about teh book coming out? Bet she is.

and sad in a wya too as it's her baby all grown up and left

(sniff)

BandofMuggles · 03/07/2007 09:33

Yeah, I wonder if she is apprehensive about whether we wll like what she's done??
Had never thoguht of that, but she must be bit nervous about it.

rosmerta · 03/07/2007 11:31

I wonder if that's why she might play safe & have everyone living happily? Apart from the people she kills of course!

Tartanmam · 03/07/2007 12:00

JK Rowling is on Jonathon Ross this Friday in case anyone didn't know.

tigerschick · 03/07/2007 12:29

ooh didn't know that tartanmum, will look out for it.

I'm re-reading OotP at the mo. I'd forgotten how little Dumbledore is in it. They've just had the first DA meeting in the room of requirement and he hasn't been in it since the start of term.

rosmerta · 03/07/2007 12:36

He'd be off on the horcrux hunt wouldn't he?

tigerschick · 03/07/2007 12:58

I suppose so. I haven't read this one for quite a while as it isn't one of my favourites, maybe the fact that Dd isn't in it much is one of the reasons that I'm not so keen on it. That and the fact that, to me, it is the one where Harry's 'cause' seems most hopeless. In all the others there is a glimmer, or more, of hope that something good will happen soon. But in this one it seems so dismal. But, maybe that's just me

rosmerta · 03/07/2007 14:00

I guess its just a major shift from the others isn't it? With Harry being all angry & grumpy & then losing Sirius, its a completely different tone to the others. I mean, even HBP has some element of hope at the end I think.

MrsWeasley · 03/07/2007 14:23

its absolutely amazing really she managed to capture the typical moods of a teenager.
In some books I've read the teenagers are wonderful, never argue, never do anythign silly, always remember their manners etc but her stories are so realistic

persephonesnape · 03/07/2007 14:25

HBP just has an element of HURRY UP AND WRITE THE NEXT ONE at the end.

I'm getting my wrists tattooed on DHallows day now. I may have to make an elaborate one handed turning device...

MrsWeasley · 03/07/2007 14:31

oh what design are you having? A HP one

MrsWeasley · 03/07/2007 14:31

AGH not the dark mark LOL

persephonesnape · 03/07/2007 16:23

hahah, i have just enough space for a couple of nice traditional butterflies - but i am toying with the idea of getting a phoenix on my foot.

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 03/07/2007 16:38

Hello all - no blooming internet at home again so been unable to join in the fevered speculation that seems to have gone on this weekend. Missed you. Have a couple of points to make:

  1. Didn't Ginny Weasley also hear the voice behind the veil in the death room? I'm pretty sure she did as I remember trying to work out why some people could hear them and some couldn't and remember thinking she was an anomaly as, as far as we know, she's not seen anyone die.
  2. The only things I can think that we learnt about Lily in Book 5 is her sticking up for Severus and the fact that she didn't start seeing James until 7th year. So am also thinking that there's a Snape/Lilly lurve thing going on - whether real or unrequited.
  3. I think JKR has mentioned something about the colour of Lily's eyes being important. Do we know if anyone else apart from Lily and Harry have green eyes? Do we think it's something to do with the colour spectrum, e.g. V's eyes are red and isn't that a counter colour to green (or vice versa)?

As you may or may not be able to tell I've thought about this a lot over the weekend. I also made sure I really read the Mundungus bit in HBP to check whether the locket got a mention again and it hasn't.

persephonesnape · 03/07/2007 16:48

If Lily started seeing James in 7th year was it a bit of a whirlwind courtship, given she didn't like him one little bit in Snapes pensieve. I get the impression that they married soon after leaving Hogwarts. (not usre why i think that though...)

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 03/07/2007 16:51

Yes there's quite a lot about how, when V was at full strength last time, there were a lot of elopements and fast courtships. Similar to wartime Britain I expect.

LazyLine · 03/07/2007 17:19

The Snape/Lily theory is a popular one but I can't help but think that it is wrong. I think that JKR sees Snape as much more of a horrible person than a lot of readers do, especially ones that would pair him with Lily. I think that he has taken on some qualities that she never expected him to, she did say in an interview that Snape in love would be "a horrible thing" or something along those lines. I don't really think that JKR sees Snape as any sort of romantic character.

dewmeadow · 03/07/2007 17:31

yes but she definitely wrote him as a sympathetic character in OotP I think - when you see how horrible his home is, and how lonely and bullied he is at school, you definitely begin to identify with him more - maybe lulled into some sort of emotional trap.

Transfiguratinglily - about your harry the horcrux theory - I mentioned it to my childminder and she said why would he do that if he was going to kill him?!!!!!!!!

MrsWeasley · 03/07/2007 17:34

The veil attracted people to it and they went into a trance staring at it. Hermione had to pull Ginny away but the only other one who mentioned hearing the voices was lovely Luna!

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun: love the red/green idea but not sure its that!

persephonesnape: butterflies are nice (perhaps sitting on the sorting hat )

Lily started showing an interest in James when he "grew up" a bit and stopped showing off. It is possible she had always liked him but teenagers are complicated things
