BandofMuggles · 02/07/2007 10:55

I am on and off btw, not sat here all the time

tigerschick · 02/07/2007 11:12

Me too, bom, honest!!

Have watched the clips. It looks like they've changed things a bit but I guess they could only reckon to get the essence of the story into a film that lasts less than 2 days! It is 766 pages long after all.

rosmerta · 02/07/2007 11:18

Ok, I'll let you off! Ds is in nursery this am so am doing my work from home, this is just a little break!

MrsWeasley · 02/07/2007 11:19

I'm on and off to (on MN off to mugglenet, on MM, off to hp lexicon. LOL not really)

Anyway I have just seen this comment from a radio show, havent read whole interview but this is exciting:"JKR: the important thing about Harry's mother - the really, really significant thing - you're going to find out in two - in two parts. You'll find out a lot more about her in book five, or you'll find out something very significant about her in book five, and you'll find out something incredibly important about her in book seven. But I can't tell you what those things are, so I'm sorry, but they - yes, you will find out more about her, because they're - both of them are very important in what Harry ends up having to do."

ohh
OK the big power that harry has, is to love and have feelings, so do you think he has to forgive V ? going to go and ponder a bit!!

tigerschick · 02/07/2007 11:33

OK, being thick ... What do you think the important thing we found out in Book 5 was? Was it that she didn't have to die or was it that she didn't like James at school? Or that she defended Snape? Or ... ?

rosmerta · 02/07/2007 11:44

It was probably all of those things, to do with her character & personality, but wonder what the big thing in book 7 is going to be?

tigerschick · 02/07/2007 11:56

I think I may pop before the book comes out!!!

Toooo excited!!!!

rosmerta · 02/07/2007 11:57

The waiting is going to be made even worse by the film coming out 10 days earlier

tigerschick · 02/07/2007 12:06

An article in the Times said that the film isn't too great () and will be over shadowed by people being too excited about the last book coming out. That is why I'm trying not to get too excited.

Not doing very well tho

rosmerta · 02/07/2007 12:14

I am looking forward to the film but even more so to the book, and imo the films are always overshadowed anyway because they're not as good!

BandofMuggles · 02/07/2007 12:23

The films are always a bit of a disappointment, but I think this one looks to be less crap than the others

persephonesnape · 02/07/2007 12:39

'Or that she defended Snape'

yes, because severus LOVED HER!

BandofMuggles · 02/07/2007 12:46

OH SOB at the clip of Sirius and Harry, "What if I'm becoming like him"

MrsWeasley · 02/07/2007 12:52

thats a heart breaking scene isnt it?

RosaLuxembourg · 02/07/2007 13:58

Sorry to hijack but any HP nuts with time on their hands fancy looking at my thread here and helping me out with party ideas for a HP-crazy 10-year-old?
Many thanks.

rosmerta · 02/07/2007 14:15

Hi Rosa, I've posted a couple of ideas for you, probably not much help!

MrsWeasley · 02/07/2007 14:42

I've put a few idea down or you if I think of anything else I will let you know!

I am very lucky that we live near an old steam train and it has carriags like in HP so will take the kids there!

tigerschick · 02/07/2007 18:02

Been thinking about the fact that there is something significant about Lily in the next book. What if she isn'e muggle-born? I mean that one of her parents might have been a witch or wizard without knowing it - a squib. That might mean that Petunia is a squib too. I know there was some doubt that Petunia will do magic but I'm sure there is more to her than meets the eye.

rosmerta · 02/07/2007 18:45

JKR has said that Petunia isn't the one to do magic. But I reckon Petunia knows more about Lily & the wizarding world than she lets on.

LazyLine · 02/07/2007 19:18

Could be many things about Lily, maybe she was adopted, maybe she wasn't a muggleborn.

I do wonder about the fact that she didn't have to die. We know that Voldemort said that he wouldn't kill her if she stepped aside and sacrificed Harry, hence the protection. James he was going to kill anyway. Do we know that Snape asked for Lily to be saved? I get so muddled with what we know and don't and what is speculation. What I mean is, why would Voldemort bother to offer Lily her life. She's a muggleborn for a start and he would have no reason to not just kill her to get to Harry. Suspicious, or not?

JKR has confirmed that the latecomer to magic is not Petunia, but agree that she must know more about magic than she is letting on. I am sure that she has met Snape at some point, it is clear that he and Lily shared some sort of friendship for at least a short time. We know that Lily was talented at Potions.

One would assume that the new magic-doer would be Filch, Dudders or Mrs Figg.

BandofMuggles · 02/07/2007 20:10

Hmm, good points, about lily and snape both good at potions. Petunia probably knows what Lily told her. I mean she may have had to go to Diagon Alley to shop with Lily and her parents etc. Maybe she's just jealous??

Very suss that V wouldn't just kill a mudblood, he despises them after all. He surely wouldn't think twice. Plus she was in the Order. Hmmm, very odd.

tigerschick · 02/07/2007 20:23

Agree that it is odd that V offered L her life but not sure how important it is. It may simply reinforce the whole love thing; if she hadn't died trying to save him then he wouldn't have had the protection so would have been killed. Hmmm, notsure about whether V had a reason not to kill her, but, as far as I know there haven't been any clues to suggest one.

rosmerta · 02/07/2007 20:55

I agree with you tigerschick, I think V was just trying to get her out of the way & would have killed her anyway!

persephonesnape · 02/07/2007 20:56

Is arabella Figg dead ? or did i just make that up though? one loses track...

I was boring my OH silly on sunday after reading reviews in the paper.. i think it's interesting how you have parallels with the war in iraq and the war between V & death eaters and the rest of the wizarding community - i like how rowling discusses internal acts of terrorism (death eaters killing muggles etc) and how people sometimes aren't just good or evil - there are a lot of grey areas introduced as the three central characters mature and life isn't as simple as you may believe when you are a child..

Mrs Norris isn't just a cat ( again!) i have to keep bringing this up every so often...

BandofMuggles · 02/07/2007 20:59

Acc to JKR on her website, Mrs Norris IS just a cat.
However Crookshanks is half Kneazle, but since I haven't read JKR book on Creatures I don't know what one of those is

Mrs Figg isn;t dead. She gave evidence inOOTP, but don't think we've seen her since.
